July 21, 2010 Left-wingers have no monopoly on political correctness. You know, the mindset that America is a horrible racist and sexist nation, and that it is responsible for all or most of the world's ills, that white people there are priveleged racists who are out to offend and oppress "people of color" etc, and that racism and sexism are rampant in America, and who are so quick to take offense at people using the wrong term for something or other. And the notion that if you are white and male, you are the devil. Yes, this is all pure poppycock. But no one ever seems to point out the fact that conservatives have their own kind of political correctness which is just as ridiculous and pernicious. Conservative political correctness consists of such nice-sounding terms as "family values","traditional values", "rule of law", "respect for the constitution", "original intent", "smaller government", "limited government","decency" "lowering taxes", "personal responsibility", the "sanctity of life", the "right to life", the "culture of life vs the culture of death", "preserving religious freedom","standing up to the gay agenda","protecting marriage","ending the welfare state", and similar buzz words. But what do these terms really signify? In fact, they are nothing but a smokescreen for intolerance, and turning America into a nation in which there would be very little freedom for any one but Christian heterosexuals who oppose abortion and like censorship. And if you have any objection to such terms, you are automatically suspect of being "socialist",a "Marxist" and a "communist", and in favor of "big government", "anti-business", an "anti-christian bigot", a "baby-killer", and even of being gay even if you happen to be heterosexual, like me. Unless you approve of these conservative terms, you must be a wicked, godless, hedonistic, morally relativistic, licentious "liberal" or "progressive" who is out to undermine moralilty in America.
That's right-according to conservatives, only they can be moral, virtuous, godly, hard-working and patriotic. Sure.
