Jan. 17, 2010 They are referred to as natural disasters, but the one that ripped up Haiti was simply called the earthquake. It unexpectedly ravaged Haiti the afternoon of January 12, 2010 and surprisingly wasn’t the biggest recorded, but by far the most deadliest. World relief efforts have been pouring into the grim situation as quick as humanly possible. The United States along with Iceland, Britain, France, and China are among the countries responding with strong support. The images on millions of televisions around the world are ghastly and gruesome. The young as well as the old, are suffering from the aftermath of the earthquake. Chaos accompanied by random looting and rioting has settled in from the tragic event. The people there simply don’t know where to turn for immediate help. The basics such as food and water are greatly needed at this point. Their government and local law enforcement is totally non existent. And because Haiti is economically deficient already, it doesn’t have the means to help itself in any way. The earthquake has depleted what ever limited resources it had to began with. President Rene Preval of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti is pleading with all nations to come to his country’s aid. The Haition Red Cross believes that anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 people are dead. Bodies are being piled up on trucks and on the side of the already crowded streets. And about three million more are reported to be hurt or left homeless. Small children are wandering the streets unable to locate their parents or any other relatives. President Obama has pledged 100 million U.S. government dollars for relief and that amount is expected to increase as the year progress. National businesses, celebrities, and regular Americans are donating in massive numbers. The catastrophe has drawn by far the biggest relief effort recorded in history. A reported 24 million dollars from US companies has been donated so far. For those of us who are wondering how and why this happened, sit tight you might need a little science review. The Earth is very unique but extremely complex at the same time. It is incredibly divided into a dozen tectonic plates. Which are strong widespread plates with major impact capabilities. These plates float and shift, moving past one another at a geologically slow rate. The North American plate moves west relative to the Caribbean plate, at a rate of an inch a year. Built up stress and energy in the Earth resulted in the earthquake. Now here is something very interesting. There was a chilling almost precise prediction in a report done by a group of United States geologist. Their initial findings were presented at the 18th Caribbean Geological Conference in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in March of 2008. It was stated that an earthquake of a 7.0 magnitude could hit Haiti in the future. Evidently their warning of such a massive disaster fell on deaf ears and ignored. What an unfortunate beginning to the start of the new decade. More and more world wide natural disasters are occurring at astonishing rates. Is this a clear sign that the Earth is in serious jeopardy of someday self destructing? Many religious and scientific scholars agree that it might very well be. I’m going to ask everyone to free your minds for a moment. Let me turn your attention to the Bible, specifically the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and of course Revelations. Its prophecy is very interesting concerning this particular tragic event. Interesting enough the books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke all prophecy about great earthquakes occurring in different parts of the world. Now it doesn’t specifically say when or what country any of the disasters are supposed to happen. Still each book mentions earthquakes throughout their verses. And from my understanding, the Bible is believed to be the oldest book known to mankind.
The book of Revelations kind of sum everything up. The end of times is
predicted in this book. Scientist all over the world have been monitoring
everything from global warming to earthquakes for years. And none of them
can predict when Earth’s time will finally expire. The people of Haiti may think
that time is already up for them. Maybe next time we will pay more attention
to the warnings signs. Maybe next time we will not look at race or where
the disasters take place, but simply respond in a humanitarian way. I believe
the Bible got it right. Earth’s time has been numbered, but when?
