Jan. 3, 2010 I suppose the pirates of Somalia give us a feeling that we have returned to a bygone era. However, it would seem that these sea terrorists from Somalia where there is no government are a symbol of civil unrest. Yet another reminder that times have changed when men in rowboats take on the U.S. Navy. A David and Goliath story to be sure. What might be happening too is that we are entering a new age, the beginning of the end of the fossil fuel era and a industry that is moving toward change like solar power and alternative energy sources.
I wrote this about 3 months ago and I see that the pirates of Somalia are at it again. Not exactly as Errol Flynn would do it to be sure but these pirates and their sense of lawlessness is unprecedented in the 21st century. Desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose but isn’t this taking things a bit too far? I am convinced these acts are an auger of things to come maybe some that are too hard for us to imagine. In any case these pirates are not about greed and avarice they ransom these ships because they are hungry and when that basic need is threatened anyone can be a pirate even I, even you.
I seem to see life through the lens of metaphors that show up whenever I am moved or connected with the deeper meaning of life in front of me. My style humorous in one layer can move you to tears or have you nodding "yes" as you sidle up to the emotions in you. My explorations delve into the human condition as it relates to fragmented relationships, blended family challenges and any form of the addictions that plague us. I won't try to tell you what to do or give you 10 easy steps or even point you in the direction I think you should be headed. Rather it is my wish that you take longer looks at the areas of your life you only gave fleeting glances to.
