Feb. 21, 2010 Why do atheists attack religion? This question is typed on the internet many times a day. The argument of God vs Nothing seems to be now in full swing. Believers telling atheists that they are going to hell! And God shall punish them for what they believe. But when an Atheist turns around and talks back to the believer(for the sack of this article “believer” will be used for all religious people) It is taken as an evil thing, and the believer asks Why do atheists attack religion? Is the religious beliefs of someone you never meet really out to hurt you? I hope to explain this to all my readers by the end of this writing. I myself am an atheist who gets asked this question at least once a day, I have spent along time thinking , should I care what others believe? And I have come to an answer, the answer like many answers, is found in history. The bible, the holy book of many people in the western world is full of moral teachings and for the most part people pick and choose what they want to believe. There are few out there that believe in every word of the bible, but the problem is……those “few” are growing. Some may say this is not a big deal and let them live their lives…..but to an atheist this could turn into a fight for our very own lives. The bible states many times in both the old and new testament that any none believer should be killed (in most cases stoned) and as history shows texts that are ignored for the warnings that are found inside of the text, is a mistake that has been made to many times before. Mein kampf a book that most should know was written by Adolf Hitler. Not only did this man kill millions of people and help start one of the worst wars in history but he told the people of the world 15 years or so before hand that he planned to do this. In Mein kampf Hitler tells of what he shall do when he takes power, Hitler talks about getting more “living space” for his people and points to Russia as a good source for this. Hitler clearly ranks the people of Europe on their worth (Jews being on the bottom). And even explains that the Jews should be done away with because they are part of a Jewish conspiracy. All the events of the Nazi regime where clearing planned out in Mein kampf and no one did anything about it, The results? Millions dead. The bible clearly states like Mein kampf what should be done to people. What is the difference? The communist manifesto a small book written by Karl Marx, is seen by most as the founding book of the communist ideology . The book clearly states that the workers should over throw the bourgeoisie and take power for themselves. The Russian revolution under Lenin put this plan into action as did the Chinese Revolution lead by Mao…. The Results? Millions died…..Like the bible the text clearly told the people what to do. Did anyone do anything? Not till it was to late.
Now some may say that the bible is not like the communist manifesto or Mein kampf, but is it? All books lay down an ideology, the only difference is that the bible says this is the word of God. Which I believe is worse, God is much easier to obey then Marx or Hitler.
So next time a believer asks what is wrong with the bible, point them towards the history of other texts……such as Mein kampf and the communist manifesto. And try to have them put down the bible….before it is to late.
