Feb. 3, 2010 I have an idea I would like you to pass along to the Editor and everyone at Useless Knowledge Magazine, if you think it's feasible. I think some of the best articles on political (U.S. Foreign policy, etc.), religious (Christianity V. Creationism. etc.), social (race, economics and crime in America); and general issues should be taken from the UK archives and put into book form. You could write a preface to each segment detailing what was going on at the time the articles were written. I would even be willing to do some of the research this project would entail. Contributors with 50 articles or more would pick their 5 best articles and submit them to be part of the debate. The final draft could be whittled down to 200 or so (and at approximately 2 pages per essay, that would be a 400+ page book). The book would showcase the diversity of opinion from around the world. For example--there was a lot of back and forth on the Natalee Holloway issue, as well as the Conservative V. Liberal debate. Right now there are conflicting viewpoints on Barack Obama. A book proposal could be written and submitted to any number of publishers. The selling point is that these are writers from all over the world, and hence, there would be a worldwide market. Second, there is a potpourri of backgrounds--youngster (Lepiarz). elder statesman (Hughes), black, white, Latino, male, female, poor, Christian, atheist and so forth. UK is all over the net and so are many of its columnists. Imagine Michael McCrae/Lewis V. Gelbart; or Stelly/Hughes (or Pain/Lewis); Keyes/Fred Smith; etc.
Just a thought. Some feedback would be nice.
