Dec. 20, 2010 “The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.” Psalm 145:8-9 Coming into another Christmas Season I thought I would pen a few thoughts. I know I haven’t been around for some time. Busy is busy and as one gets older one places priorities elsewhere. There also must be a desire to write which hasn’t been with me for many months now. Yet, Christmas gets me to thinking about the One True God and how he has blessed the earth through the centuries since sending his son Jesus to redeem mankind. Oh, I know this isn’t the reality for the majority of the world’s minions; at least not by the standard of actual faith. But it is nonetheless the reality for every man who has every lived since Christ’s first advent. Unbelief does not negate history. There are those who deny the Holocaust ever happened, but you would never convince the Jews who were rescued from their prison camps near the end of World War Two that Hitler’s Hell never existed. The cited scripture notes that God, more importantly “the LORD is good to all.” There is no reason to doubt that simple statement. Just because men do not know how to treat each other with respect should not lead men to believe God in any way cruel. Every work of God contains “his tender mercies”. This is only true of HIS works however. Why do men suffer? The very simple answer is sin. Men suffer because sin rules any heart of unbelief. “The LORD is gracious”. That means that God is waiting to bestow grace upon anyone willing to open their heart to faith. This is not a difficult thought. The more a person struggles, the more God is willing to pull that individual from struggle. A relationship with God is a personal thing. It has ever been between the individual and God. Those men who walked with Jesus saw mercy first hand. There were people thought far too unclean to even approach the Messiah. He welcomed them. He healed them. Jesus recognized faith in corners no other man could see and he was able to reach out to these souls and give them the greatest hope for their eternity. So Jesus was not born in December. What does that matter? Jesus was born and all the historical records are fact without legitimate refutation. The child was born, the son was given and the world’s governments were put upon him and he was known as Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father and The Prince of Peace. All of that through the humble birth in some stable in a small Jewish settlement. Is it so hard to believe God could act in a way as to make himself completely plain and open to the minds of men? The first advent of the LORD to earth was only the beginning. The ministry and the witnesses of Jesus speak of a Second Advent. God is not done with man. He has not completed the salvation of every soul he has planned to save. There may be many more years of struggle before God decides to complete what he began so long ago. This is the importance of Christmas. It is a reminder to mankind that God has always been a God of mercy, grace and compassion. His gift to men is a sure gift. It is an everlasting gift. To all my colleagues, friends and even my detractors here in Useless-Knowledge I wish only God’s finest for you and your families during the holiday celebrations and into the coming year. I pray you find peace, safety and security. Sincerely. ------------ Email Skip Toomaloo: skiptoomaloo@hotmail.com
