Aug. 28, 2010 One of my first articles on this site was about the fact that I believed that Joran van der Sloot was a sociopath. I stated my reasons for believing that and used information gleaned from not only the DSM-IV, but from years of studying the condition. I studied the condition because I was once married to a bonafide sociopath who was diagnosed by several doctors and who's actions were textbook behaviors describing this horrifying and terminal condition. I eventually divorced this creature (who is still committing the same crimes and is currently serving a life sentence for his latest miss-adventure after 4 decades), but the impact that his behavior had on me was so profound that I made it my life-long duty to figure out what makes one of these soulless creatures do the things that they do. The final word on why this condition exists is still yet to be written and many institutions and trained individuals are still trying to understand why a person appears to be born without a conscience. I doubt that we will ever have all of the answers, but we have enough to put together a pretty good profile on what to expect when one encounters sociopathic behavior. Joran van der Sloot is a classic example of socipathy and his every action and reaction is straight out of the pages of every single paper ever written on the subject. He has absolutely no compassion or empathy for others. He has no remorse and he is a narcissistic, pathological liar. If not stopped for good, he will continue to commit his crimes and neither age nor circumstances will make him quit. He probably began his serious criminal pursuits with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and was at the right age for his condition to manifest itself. Usually, sociopathic behavior reaches it's onset when someone hits their teens and continues unabated for the rest of their lives. It's also possible that Joran committed other petty criminal acts prior to his fateful meeting with Natalee Holloway but his father and the corrupt people they associated with on Aruba never bothered to stop Joran or even investigate his crimes. I would be willing to bet that if the truth were known, Joran did something criminal earlier than his encounter with Natalee and that his parents knew about it and ignored or covered it up. I can blame Aruba for Joran's eventual brutal act in Peru or I can blame his family or a combination of the two. In hindsight I can see the trail of misery that Joran has inflicted on others. None of that will stop Joran nor will it prevent him from committing even more deadly acts against women and society. The only way to stop Joran is to lock him up forever and throw away the key. The only way to guarantee that Joran will not continue to harm the innocent among us is to purge van der Sloot from the earth. I doubt that this will happen...at least not in Peru. The sentencing for killers in Peru is mild compared to other places and they currently do not have the death penalty so even if convicted, Joran will eventually be set free to wreak havoc on others. I have to hope that Joran is stopped by his fellow inmates or that the USA extradites him to be tried for crimes he has been charged with. Sadly, those crimes are not the kind that warrant long sentences or the death penalty and if enough time passes he nay be subject to the statute of limitations. I don't usually advocate that people kill each other as I expressed above about his fellow inmates doing him in; but, in this case it is necessary to hope that Joran van der Sloot is stopped no matter how or where. It is a matter of getting him before he gets someone else. If you have any doubts about what Joran is capable of than read the material on sociopathy that is available....there's quite a bit and it will be extremely informative. Read the case studies on other sociopathic killers and how they kill. It will boggle the mind as to what lengths they will go to to torture and maim other people and shock you beyond belief as to how they feel nothing while executing their need to destroy.
So, after all of these years I reiterate my original beliefs and writings.....Joran van der Sloot IS a sociopath and he MUST be stopped at ALL costs.
