Suppressed News

By Alexey Braguine
Oct. 26, 2009

The news flashed around the world. BBC transmitted from London. Aljaseera in English, anchoring from Washington D.C. showed dramatic footage. Meanwhile in the U.S. all was quiet. TV stations ignored the event. The following day, October 26, The mainstream media mentioned nothing. The American public was kept in the dark.

Was it censorship, , reluctance to publish unpleasant news? Pressure? Lack of interest by viewers/readers?

The news were definitely inopportune for President Obama and the whole crew wanting to continue the war in Afghanistan but unable to come up with a workable plan to win it.

The suppressed news item:

A rumor circulating in Kabul that Americans burned a copy of the Koran triggered a massive protest. Thousands of people took to the streets shouting ”Death to America,” waving flags and burning effigies of President Obama.

When police arrived to disperse the crowds, people rioted and attacked the riot police with stones.

This event indicates how ready the Afghans are to believe the worst about Americans. That this event happened in Kabul, which is considered a pacified area (the only one) shows how deep is the resentment for the foreign invaders. It also reveals how impossible it is to win the hearts and Afghan minds, the basic premise to win an insurgency.

Having seen the size of the demonstration and the fury of the participants it is evident that the U.S. cannot possibly win the war there.

Whoever is responsible for this news blackout has betrayed the American public. He/she/them has acted stupidly. In this world of instant communication and the Blogosphere, it is impossible to suppress the news.
