Linda McMahon Has Begun Putting Her Moves On The Opposition

By Neil Levine
Oct. 19, 2009

Linda McMahon has jump started her race for the U.S. Senate seat from Connecticut with a thirty million dollar campaign budget.

The election for the seat she is running for is more than a year away and she already has tv ads up in the Greater New York Metro market.

New York? She's supposed to be running in Connecticut.

Don't let the geography fool you, Greater New York includes Southern Connecticut so there is a serious method to this approach. Being able to address the voters on the state border gives her a big leg up on all her opponents, including the well traveled incumbent, Chris Dodd.

Basically, she just introduces herself politely. Still, considering her business background, this would appear to be a sensible plus. Certainly, having run a wrestling empire that sells tv, live events and video, she is media savvy and has the experience to make hay where the political sun shines.

We shall see what issues she presents.

She has plenty of time. The 2009 Election, the current voting, ends the first week of November so she has begun early and is trying to build a fast and, if she can do so, insurmountable lead. This is going to be interesting. Can she do it?

A web search pulls up not only a Linda McMahon ad, but a nice web site with information including, believe it or not, events. Fundraisers. Mayors. A visit to Torrington. Linda McMahon is up and running.

Middlesex. Fairfield. Even Stamford. Where will this all end?

Give back to Connecticut. Sounds nice.

Her candidacy has already attracted attention. Many major news outlets ALL OVER the country have published stories. The New York Times has been polite. The Wrestling News is all over her campaign.

There is even some satire about her wresting background. Though the current word is six term incumbent and veteran political war horse Christopher Dodd may be weak and vulnerable.

Hey, the Wrestling News continues to treat her every political move as if it were a championship match. Sounds like they smell blood in the water.

Windsor. Southington.

One other Republican opponent, Tom Foley, has also begun to air tv ads. Watch out. This could quickly become an electronic voting booth match.

Linda McMahon continues to criss cross the state. Hartford. Windsor. Riverton.

Where are the issues?

So far, former Republican Congressman Rob Simmons has criticized her for helping Democrats and there are stories she has not voted in the past. Nothing substantial. Yet typical quiet day filler.

Mrs. McMahon has finally come out against the Baucus version of the health care bill while her opponent, when told that she was willing to spend thirty million dollars on her run for the Senate, Senator Dodd confessed he was not in that league, having raised nine hundred thousand dollars in the latest quarter. Mrs. McMahon, in comparison, has already spent two million dollars for starters.

Interestingly, there are abundant rumors on the web concerning Linda McMahon's past wrestling shenanigans. She may have participated in several wrestling story lines. She may be divorced. Or married. Or, better yet, both divorced and married and, guess what, it may be to, who else, none other than Vince McMahon, Muscular Voice of Macho Wrestling. And it may not matter politically.

The real question is can she survive the stigma of being associated with such a questionable and popular sport.

Bethlehem. West Hartford. She appears to have taken Columbus Day off.

As an interesting side story, there are rumors flying that World Wrestling is becoming family friendly. Can you imagine? Maybe. Maybe not. Think of Hulk Hogan baby sitting. Better yet, forget about it. Bob Barker, Cedric The Entertainer, Shaquille O'Neil, Al Sharpton, and Ozzy Osbourne are amongst those making guest appearances.

New Canaan. Wilton. Norwalk. Stratford. North Branford.

She has now come out in favor of Republican candidates running in 2009 local races.

East Hartford. Glastonbury. Harwinton.

By the time this is over, everyone will know her name and she will have been all around the state, probably in less than eighty days. A promising start, if you ask me.

She also has several advantages over the opposition. Washington has maxed out its credit and she is promising to be conservative. She may be able to milk a patriotic streak in the country and she can put up a respectable statewide campaign. It never hurts to fly the flag.
