Oct. 12, 2009 My daughter stayed up late on Sunday with every intention of sleeping in on Monday. After all it was 'Columbus Day Weekend!' Her Father had the day off because it's a Federal Holiday. Unfortunately, our school district seems to be ill informed of the Federal Holidays! At 11:00 am I received a computerized message informing me my child failed to attend school this morning. We hurriedly got her dressed and packed her off to Middle School in the family van. At school the teachers told her they were glad she could join them as if it was a given they were expected to attend. What is going on here when Counties can pick and choose what Federal Holidays to attend and which one they deem 'unimportant?' It really makes me wonder what my daughter is learning. It seems a far cry from the education I received. But then again... I had an excellent public education in an impoverished small farming community.
Has this blatant lack of national respect been seen elsewhere?
Enjoy, life is short and each person you meet is special.
