May 21, 2009 By silent implication the media seem to agree that China is now longer the sinister entity that has confronted us since its inception as a communist state since 1949.This country is now leaving its sinister past behind. No more mass murder of those owning a certain number of acres or having a family store. No mass deportations to the country side for those guilty of being a ‘capitalist roader’, or indeed for having reactionary thought’s as was the case under Chairman Mao. No Red Guards type of persecution for those whom the CCP suspects as being its enemy. No, with no action what so ever, all of that is part of the dark past never to again resurface. For a government since its inception responsible for 40,000,000 deaths outside of war, natural disasters or judicial proceedings this is quite an achievement. In fact it is miraculous. True we still hear stories about the persecution of those who like to exercise while at the same time holding certain philosophical beliefs .In fact the stories seeping out of the country are quite fantastic dealing with mass arrests ,torture and death for the adherents of these, in the words of the CCP, ‘cults’. I cant quite seem to get a handle on what offences their members have actually committed, but then if they, the CCP, (and our own media), in their wisdom, feel it is unnecessary to delve into such matters, I suppose we should just ignore them and concentrate upon more important stuff such as: the astronomincal amounts of cash awarded to western CEO’s; global warming ; the lies perpetrated by Bush and the CIA; the glorious future awaitng us under the benign dictatorship of Obama. Seriously though we should not take too seriously a media which can only survive if they make a buck. If the general public don’t want to hear about anything beyond the lies of Bush and Cheney, the stupidity of Palin (what happened to Dan Quale), or the fact that their readers, like the minority slaves in the past, are victims of an unfair system who deserve compensation, why should they disillusion them.
Isn’t it all seeming to take on the aspects of George Orwells book 1984, the difference being that it not the powerful government inflicting crimes upon humanity through the control and distortion of the media; but those at the bottom who are content to let crimes against humanity occur so long as they can make a claim upon those around them for a kind of vague Hollywood depiction of injustice thereby encouraging a media distortion of actual events.
