Jacob In The Dream

By Brian Michael Barbeito
May 14, 2009

Jacob knew he was going to have a strange dream and he did. Somewhere in the dream he found himself having traveled with a woman to a different city. It was supposed to be a good and fruitful journey, a trip of friendship, renewal, and perhaps even inspiration. But the landscape was dull, dull, dull, and sullen. The woman was quiet, and not having a good journey. Jacob could sense that the people of the city were odd, cold, indifferent for the most part and he also go the impression that they could be hostile or menacing if interacted with. The colors of the city were another factor that didn’t help. Everything from the sky to the buildings to the food seemed to appear gray or a shade of gray. From that city, it was arranged that they would briefly go to another, farther city, to see it also. This father city was more alien, and ramshackle, downtrodden, and altogether uninviting. There were a few people there that Jacob and the woman briefly had reason to interact with. There was a family that lived on the outskirts of the town, by a river. It was all ominous, abrupt. There were two others…one was a lady that was a food vendor and one was an insane man, talking and singing to the air for protections of some sort. It had been bad enough for Jacob to be in the first city, alien, unwelcome, but this second city had been worse. Perhaps on some level Jacob knew he was dreaming but he was only able to endure the dream.
