May 5, 2009 When I e mail conservatives or conservative websites, or leave comments, I am invariably labeled a damned liberal,commie-America-hating, baby-killing, morally relative hedonistic SOB. But when I do the same at left-wing websites, I am always condemned as a damned capitalist, reactionary, rcist, sexist SOB. Am I a conservative or a liberal? It depends on whom I'm talking to. The fact is that I can't stand extremists on either side. I'm fed up with narrow-minded, intolerant, self-righteous religious conservatives, whether evangelical or Catholic etc. They call for restoring"freedom" in America. Great. But with freedom like this, who needs tyranny? They want an America in which there is absolutely no sex before marriage, even for adults who have never been married, no abortion, no homosexuality, no contraception, no divorce,or a few as possible, families with two heterosexual parents and children and no orher family arrangements, no gambling, no pornography, no books, magazines, DVDs, films, television programs etc wwhich they disapprove of, no swearing, no improper dress, no taxes or extremely low tax rates, no welfare, no help for those out of work through no fault of their own, etc. And they want every one to have big, contented families, watch G-rated television and movies, go to church every Sunday and live happily ever after. What a pretty fairy tale ! Please !!! Give me a break !!! There is absolutely no way to create a society like this. This kind of world has never existed and never will. And if the government ever tries to force this country into this preposterously unrealistic mold, the results will be absolutely catastrophic. I'm sick of hypocritical anti-choice people who scream about the "Right to Life", and the"Sanctity of Life" while hypocritically supporting and voting for equally hypocritical republican politicians who consistently gut or eliminateprograms to provide better nutrition and education for poor children. These losers have the nerve to demand that every pregnant woman bear that child even if it's against her will, or whether she would have the means to take decent care of that child. Sure, the unborn have rights,that is, until their born. After that, you're on your own, kid. And I'm fed up with conservatives who want the government to pry into our bedrooms. Why are they so obsessed with what consenting adults do in private? What business is this of theirs? And if, as some of them say, there's no "right" to homosexual behavior in the constitution, does that mean the government has the right to put up surveillance cameras everywhere in all bedrooms etc, and arrest, prosecute, imprison and possibly execute homosexuals? What is this? Iran, Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia? And they want to lower taxes as much as possible, and they delude themselves into thinking that if we just do this and deregulate business altogether, and give all the tax breaks to the rich, everything will be hunky dory, and general prosperity will increase greatly. How can any one be so naive? No one likes taxes, but they are a necessary evil. The government can't function without them. We can't run the country the way it was in the late 18th century. The population has grown exponentially; social and economic conditions are infinitely more complex and difficult. And there has to be a safety net for the unfortunate. Conservatives say that this is the job of the private sector and charities, and that the government has no business handing out money to people. If only things were that simple ! The private sector can only do so much. The government has to do SOMETHING to help those in need. It can't just sit there on its massive posterior while so many people in this country are suffering severe hardships. Conservative social and economic policies just don't work, and never have. And if conservative politicians and those wolves in sheep's clothing, the religious right get their way, this country would be a theocracy, and a right-wing totalitarian dictatorship little better than the Soviet Union or China. On the other hand, I can't stand left-wing multiculturalism and political correctness. Nor am I one the "Blame America First" left-wing wackos who hold this nation esponsible for all the world's ills, conveniently ignoring the fact that evil and oppression exist everywhere, and that the US has absolutely no monopoly on this. To call this country "racist" is ridiculous. This implies that there are other parts of the world where there is no racism. The same with sexism. How can any one label America as a "sexist nation" given the horrible treatment of women in Islamic countries? I would never condone hate speech, but the left's paranoia about offensive speech is ridiculous and has gone to insane lengths. And if you happen to be a white male, virtually anything you say is automatically suspect of being racist,sexist and homophobic. It's almost gotten to point where all you have to say to offend some one is to come into work and say "good morning".
