![]() By Bonijean Isaacs May 5, 2009 Thomas Jefferson has always been my Hero. I longed to see Monticello even as a youngster living in Southern California when Monticello seemed like a faraway pipe dream. Life on life's terms knocked me out of my comfort zone. My now second ex-husband retired and we relocated to West Forgotten By Santa Virginity. That marriage went South. I eventually followed a Love Connection with a Texas Truckdriver. That romance went straight to the Gulf of Mexico so I headed West to what I call Bum Firetruck, Nevada. Firetruck is the F-Word that ends with UCK. From there I went to Arkansas back to West Virginia and over the boarder to the Commonwealth of Virginia. I didn't find love but I did find Wal-Mart. The beauty of Wal-Mart is that I can transfer every six months to just about any where I want to in the United States. So last Summer, I met a guy and he said, "Come on honey, transfer to Sam's Club and lets become domestic partners." So now I am a Cashier at Sam's Club in Charlottesville, Virginia and Monticello is right up the road. My Guy Friend wouldn't go to Monticello with me so I went with a female friend. My Guy Friend's married Fire-trucking Buddy's Husband died so another relationship bit the dust. I am dying of a broken heart however Blue Ridge Country and Monticello suits me just fine. Lack of men has never been my dilemma and there is always the Redhead Mating Call.............................. NEXT!!!!!!!! I tell the guys that if they want the Wild Thing with me, it is going to cost them Three Dates and a Trip to Monticello. It screens out the players real fast. If my date and I REALLY get Lucky, I can compromise their virtue on Thomas Jefferson's Grave. Tom would applaud that Venture. So far, it hasn't happened but I've been to Monticello a half dozen times or so. I usually go by myself which suits me just fine. When I say Monticello, I am not talking about the overpriced house tour. That might be worth doing one time but beyond that............ It's better to spend time on the nearby hiking trials and there are free events that allows the public on the grounds. The First one I went to was the reenactment of Thomas Jefferson's return to Monticello after eight years of the Presidency. I opted to walk up the mountain in the rain versus taking the shuttle bus to the West Lawn where there were Drummers and Pipers in Colonial Era Regalia. It was raining just like it was on that day 200 plus years before. It was an honor to share that special day with Thomas Jefferson. I know that Dubya would never send a invite to a humble Sam's Club Cashier and if he did, it would cost my entire stimulus refund and the airfare to Bum Firetruck, Texas. On April 13th was Thomas Jefferson's 266th Birthday so they had a party for him at Monticello. I opted not to listen to the Long Winded Dignitaries and spent the day roaming on the grounds, checking out the gardens and doing the trail.
Lately, I get tired of all the mumblings about politics one way or the other. I can't do any thing about it anyway. All I can fix is that which is right in my own Medicine Wheel or Community. If I make that better just a little bit, it can snowball out into other communities and make them better. So right now I am gracing Monticello and Blue Ridge Country with my presences and thanking God every day that I am not in Bum Firetruck, Texas or Nevada.
