May 1, 2009 Many news organizations (CNN, in particular), spent a lot of time in "grading" the President on his accomplishments during his first 100 days in office. As far as I am concerned this is a total waste of time and in no way shows us what Mr. Obama will accomplish (or not) during his first term as President. For the record, if I were grading Mr. Obama I would give him a C for effort. He hasn't brought forth the "change" that was promised ad nauseum, ad infinitim through out his campaign and until I see some concrete evidence of major change in this country he will continue to earn the grade of C, in my opinion. I'm not really sure that the President or anyone else who might have become President during this last election cycle could possibly accomplish all that was promised in four years let alone 100 days. I believe that he over promised and therefore will under accomplish. I also believe that based on the so-called "historical" aspect of Obama's election that many of his supporters will follow him and praise him no matter what he does. The only thing that will undo his high ratings (especially in the media), is the economy. If in four years we are still in bad shape economically he won't be re-elected. I have not had high expectations for the President because I do not believe that he is a miracle worker (as some do), therefore, I do not expect him to fix all of the problems that America faces. Sadly, those who do expect these miraculous changes are the same people who also believed the hype. That hype was so over-blown and so over-stated that he has no wiggle room. He is responsible for that because he ran around the country sounding like a messianic figure or a super hero. Of course, I do want to see the many problems fixed and I do want to see people working and succeeding.....I am just a realist and realistic people don't expect unrealistic results especially in such a short time. I still see foreclosure signs on homes, I still know of people who are currently being laid off from their jobs and I am still having a difficult time paying for my husband's medication. I don't see much improvement in either the private sector or anywhere else. A good lesson in all of this would be if people would only get past the hype and the personality of the person running for President. Actually listening to what is being promised and what is possible would be a good start before someone votes. Looking at the record of the candidates and bypassing the emotional factors would also be a good way to make sure that we elect people who actually have a clue how to run the country. The best thing we could do for our country during the next congressional election cycle is to rid ourselves of all those who continue to vote for the same garbage that got us into trouble in the first place and to inject some new blood into the process. We have just a little under four years to decide whether or not President Obama should stay or go and we certainly can't make that decision based on his first 100 days!!
But, we may be able to rid ourselves of some of our congressional parasites much sooner than that so PLEASE pay attention when you next vote.
