Mar. 20, 2009 I don't have a terribly active life these days due to my personal circumstances. I do some crafts, read a lot, take care of my husband and watch a few television shows. As far as television goes I prefer shows like CSI and Law & Order and a few new ones like The Mentalist and The Eleventh Hour. They are all interesting to me and keep me from going totally nuts as the care giver of an Alzheimer's patient. As I stated above, my activities are limited and I count on these show to entertain and amuse me. I have only one question...who in the hell told the television powers that be that everyone wants to watch endless basketball games? I am aware that during the month of March we are all subjected to hour after hour of prime time basketball and that this phenomenon is known as "March Madness". What I am not aware of is who decided that all of us want our shows to be pre-empted for this constant barrage of very tall men jumping up and down, running back and forth and slam dunking a ball into a hoop. There are certain nights that are more television intensive than others; Thursday being one of them. I watch NCIS reruns, Survivor, CSI and The Eleventh Hour. I found much to my disgust that tonight (a Thursday) that I would not only not be able to watch most of those shows but that several of the other channels that I use as alternative viewing are also showing basketball. It wouldn't be so bad if this were the only night that this horrid interruption of my regular routine was occurring; but, it goes on and on until the final two teams are standing and they then battle it out for some silly title. Fine, some of you love basketball and I can respect and appreciate that but surely not all of you feel that way, right?? Some of you would like to watch something else....surely!! Well, like me, you are SOL. The last time I checked my cable menu there were several sports only channels and I can't understand why those channels can't run this endless "madness". I am finding it difficult to believe that the ratings are so high and the product sales from commercials so profound that main prime time channels like CBS would forfeit their regular programming for hours and hours of basketball.
Ah...I managed to waste exactly 15 minutes typing this and now I am only going to miss 45 minutes of my last preferred show of the evening. Soon, I will switch into reading mode and maybe if I wish really hard basketball will go away and never come back (at least to prime time).
