Mar. 19, 2009 As most people are, I am disgusted at the bonus distribution that AIG made recently. It appeared to be yet another sign of corporate greed and a complete disregard for those of us who work hard, pay taxes and have been forced to contribute to those who are greedy and unworthy of our hard earned money. When I learned that Senator Christopher Dodd lied about his part in allowing for these obscene bonus contracts to go forth I was even angrier. He obviously came to the conclusion that the media wasn't going to let go of the story so he came clean the next day and started pointing fingers. When he named the current administration as being just as complicit in allowing those corporate vultures to be rewarded for destroying their company and taking our money I was livid. By "the administration", Senator Dodd is not only referring to the Treasury Department, but to our very own supposedly untouchable and very much revered President. Obama stated yesterday that although he is not responsible for the original bail-out that rewarded AIG and others, that he would take full responsibility for the results. Really? First, didn't then Senator Obama vote for the original bail-out? Also, isn't this current stimulus package his baby? Didn't he start pushing for it's passage even before he was sworn in? Isn't this the same stimulus package that apparently NO ONE who voted for it read? Obviously since the wording contains a clause that allows for crooks and near-do-wells to receive large sums of OUR money even after they helped throw the entire country into a deep recession, President Obama signed this travesty into law without reading it himself. If he didn't read it he is at the very least irresponsible and if he did read it he is complicit in defrauding the American people. Which is it? Perhaps it doesn't matter which scenario is true...either way, he did this country and it's people a terrible disservice and I suspect that this is only the beginning of the damage that will be done before this is over. When a large group of people are persuaded to vote on historic significance rather than a candidate's experience and past record this is what happens.
I believe that we are in for far more covert betrayals and I can only hope that when it comes time to vote again we will use our brains rather than our sense of what is politically correct or historically significant.
