June 19, 2009 The organizations in the cities around the world should join along with all us people. Why you ask? Glad you did, now I can tell you. In every city there are street lights that have turn lights and most of them I find go on when there are no turning cars so you have 10 and more cars burning gas needlessly. I know I sit everyday for many minutes without moving just watching a light go through its sequences. It doesn’t cost me gas, just time because I have a Toyota Prius and it shut downs while I am waiting for the light to change. Great invention and a very well done to its originators. I watch as these gas guzzling SRV’s, SUV’s, and whatever else they call them sit there drinking up enough gas to run me for a week. Then they take of like they are late for their own funeral wasting even more gas but that I have to leave up to the driver to manage. Maybe they will read this and change their ways also. (Hey, I know I’m dreaming but can’t I have a little leeway here?) Why haven’t they checked this stuff, fix the problems, and cut out the waste they are creating when we are trying to conserve? That is for another article, when and if I find the answer. Signal light timing used to be used down here and I could drive for miles without touching my breaks or stopping. Just set you speed on the posted limits and away you go. It also is a way to control sped limits. If someone takes off and tries to drive beyond the speed limit he gets stopped at the red lights or in these days runs them, and soon learns if he or she wants to get somewhere fast just do the speed limit and off you go. The small about of expense compared to the savings in fuel far out weights the cost. At least that is the way I feel about this and why else would I be telling you if I didn’t want some company in this? I see many police cars sitting at the same lights waiting for them to change and I feel they could report these to the city and save the city the time and money to send people out to check on their own. They could also put it cell phone numbers for motorist to call to make similar reports and assist the city in correcting this problem. We are all in this together and can work together if we just put some grey matter to the effort instead of just complaining about it. It just takes a few concerned people to make a big difference so who knows the someone who can get the ball rolling.
Is it you or is it me? I will start to think of other ways to make this work will you pitch in and help also. Do you know a city council member or a mayor that can start this going? Do your part I have started mine I wrote this for you to read. I haven’t stopped though I will continue until someone listens also.
