Obama's Birth Certificate

By Thomas Keyes
July 30, 2009

I never have paid much attention to the US Constitution or to claims of constitutionality or unconstitutionality made by various individuals. The Constitution resembles the Bible in that you can prove anything you want to prove by citing some provision from one or the other or both. That the Constitution provides that the President must be a native American means little to me. Arnold Schwarzenegger could not possibly have been more catastrophic than George W. Bush was, so what’s the difference?

If I thought Barack Obama were a great president, the fact that he was born in Kenya, if that is the case, would not bother me in the least, providing that it was all open and aboveboard, even if it took a constitutional amendment to make it legitimate. There’s nothing holy about the US Constitution, and we should be able to change it with facility, if the need arises.

But as it stands, the US Constitution is still in effect, however unfortunately, and it does provide that the President of the United States should be a native American, and not just a native. Hence the birth-certificate controversy.

I’ve seen quite a few articles published by the mainstream media on the Obama birth certificate, but they never raise the obvious question, so busy they are denouncing anyone who wonders why Obama won’t release the BC. Here is a typical passage from The Honolulu Advertiser:

Hawai'i's Health Department confirmed yesterday that it has President Obama's original Aug. 4, 1961, birth certificate in storage, but the announcement is unlikely to satisfy conspiracy theorists who insist Obama was born in Kenya.

Notice the irritating innuendo about conspiracy theorists. The article should have said, “but the announcement loses credibility in that the President still refuses to release it.” I am not a conspiracy theorist if by that you mean someone who espouses far-fetched ideas with little or no evidence, nor do I maintain that Obama was definitely born in Kenya , even though I don’t rule out that possibility. What I do think though is that someone is hiding something. Somebody is lying, and I don’t know exactly why.

Notice how Newsweek contradicts The Honolulu Advertiser:

Even though he possesses (and independent witnesses have seen) a valid birth certificate from the state of Hawaii (issued in 2007), the original document is either lost or unavailable, perhaps due to the conversion of such records to electronic form in 2001. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter legally, since the existing document is valid and several local officials in Hawaii have vouched for its sufficiency.

The MSM can’t seem to agree even on the existence of the original BC, but they do agree that anyone who wonders why Obama hasn’t released the BC is on the lunatic fringe. Here is Newsweek’s smart-aleck conclusion:

Barack Obama, in ways he and his supporters cannot know or even dare to guess at, embodies all of these "evils" in the eyes of the radical rejectionists.”

The best way to shut up those conspiracy theorists and radical rejectionists is, not to have sycophantic journalists write flaming denunciations of them, but to have Obama produce the damned thing.

Until that time, I lean to the view that Hawaii has no genuine BC or that Obama was born in Kenya or out of wedlock, or all three.
