Jan. 7, 2009 As anyone who doesn't live in a cave knows by now,
John Travolta's son, Jett, died on Friday. It has been reported that he died of
a seizure and that he suffered from a seizure disorder.
It has also been reported that he may have had Kawasaki
Disease and/or Autism and a myriad of other disabilities which have NOT been
proven to be the cause of his sudden death.
Frankly, I don't think that the media should have reported
one word beyond the time and place of the death. If it turns out to be a
criminal matter (which it won't), then the public would have a right to invade
the privacy of a family that must be out of it's collective mind with grief.
Since it isn't a criminal matter it is absolutely no one else's business and I
am disgusted at the reportage that I have witnessed on every single
news channel.
Jane Velez Mitchell did her usual screaming and wailing
and even Hannity and Combs discussed the subject.
The Travolta's have been very private concerning their
children and that is their absolute right. I'm sure that the constant barrage of
speculation as to their son's life and death is making this situation even more
painful than it already is.
I believe that some of the blame for this invasive
curiosity on the part of the media (and the public that they serve), is the
fault of that space creature, Tom Cruise. If he had not spouted off about the
fact that no one else but him and other members of
Scientology understand psychotropic drugs, psychiatry and other related
medical matters maybe the focus would not be on the Travolta family who happen
to be Scientologists. It now seems that this fact puts all of their decisions
concerning their children into question and into the public domain.
I do not agree with the principals or beliefs of
Scientology and I certainly would not follow it's edicts regarding my children
and their health care, but; I do believe that they have the right to practice
any religion that they choose without being held suspect for any tragedy that
befalls them.
Concerning John Travolta, I remember when the lady that he
once loved died from Cancer and how he continued to take care of the children
that she left behind. I remember thinking what a wonderful and kind person he
was and I have no reason to think that he is any less wonderful, kind and
attentive to his own biological children.
My heart goes out to John and Kelly, their daughter Ella
and the rest of their family and I hope that they will be afforded the time to
grieve and eventually heal without the media glare blinding them and making
things worse than they already are.
No parent should outlive their children and the pain of
experiencing that is beyond any words that I can type here.
To the media.....leave them alone. To the rest of
us...pray for them.
