Shadows And Sills

By Brian Michael Barbeito
Jan. 7, 2009

The wind carried sticks and leaves around the town. Stray dogs barked and these dogs were always out in the distance and on the periphery. Old clapboard houses tried to remain brave. The night lasted forever. Water dripped from the moon. Then the moon went out of sight. Frost on the trees and chimes silver and uncluttered in the lurch of dark. The mountains knew better, and stayed still with wisdom and ease. Traveling ghost caravans. Black birds. Ants not knowing the difference between moods, just being ants. Evil grasshoppers. Lightening lights up really from the earth to the sky. The ground is the ground. Shadows and sills. A woman walks through the main streets and does what many women do. She runs her hand through her hair over her ear. The wind carries sticks and leaves around the town.
