Dec. 2, 2009 Yesterday we witnessed a grand spectacle. The setting wasn’t as grandiose as having an aircraft carrier as a prop and a Mission Accomplished slogan as backdrop, but Obama’s choice of giving a speech at an institution of higher learning gives an aura of intellectualism to the speech giver. West Point, the school in question, is well known for producing yes, sir men with bad haircuts. Mr. Obama’s interest in improving American education is laudable. However, this writer thinks that pronouncing death sentences to a number of the students will hardly improve the grades at this institution. What made the speech interesting is the postgraduate program at the Taliban campus where many of the students will attend. The program includes: Creating Instability in Ancient Cultures. Promoting The Drug Trade. Fighting an Enemy Who is Not There. The list is too long to include here, but How to Ruin Several Countries While Ruining Your Own is included. The brilliant presentation by President Obama was no less inspiring than the ones given by his predecessor, George Bush, the founder of the Fight Them Where They are Not School of Strategy.
In preparation for this speech, Obama spent weeks studying the great and deep Bushian wisdom. He should have spent some time learning French. Then he would understand the value of the saying: Fermes la Bouche!
