September 26, 2008 Over the
last eight years, under the tutelage of the pig-faced Karl Rove, the
Republicans have dreamed up a brand new – and very effective –
scheme for dealing with the media coverage they fear so much. It’s
called lying. Take a
look, for instance, at this clip from a recent
Sarah Palin interview on CBS. Palin
is clearly lying about her experience with Russian affairs, and her
tongue-in-cheek look of defiance, once upon a time decades ago, would have
earned her a well-deserved tongue-lashing – if not an outright slap to
her smirking face – if the interrogating attorney had been anybody but a
Lilliputian Katie Couric. Her husband, say. This
woman is nothing short of pathetic.
She is a liar, and a lousy one at that. Nobody with an ounce of integrity or an
iota of credibility would even dream
of claiming that a brief stint as governor of
It’s
also eminently clear that John McCain and the Republicans have given up trying
to make sense. Complex world affairs and
good governance are simply beyond their comprehension, and totally beyond their
demonstrated capacity to execute with any skill or diplomacy. So they’ve completely thrown in the
towel, and they’ve resorted to outright lying; lies so obvious and
laughable, newly employed media scribes probably examine their paychecks weekly to ensure they
haven’t mistakenly landed jobs with the National Lampoon. If you’re not going to let
us play our games, then nobody gets to play. What’s
even worse, Palin, Rove, and the Republicans think they’re being clever about it. It’s the same embarrassing
response one gets from people who are proven wrong, and don’t have the
courage or good sense to admit it.
Instead of displaying humility and searching more deeply for solutions,
they give up and become bombastic and cynical, all the while maintaining poker expressions
as if enjoying some huge private joke at the winner’s expense. The
American people deserve better.
Since the Republicans have proven to everybody – beyond even a
shadow of a doubt, that they cannot govern, even with majority control
of Congress, the Judiciary, and the Executive offices, they should cease and
desist with their whining and excuses, and leave the challenges of 21st century
leadership in the hands of people
