Sept. 19, 2008 The Obama campaign is getting desperate. The injection of Sarah Palin into the mix just prior to the start of the GOP convention has caused the McCain campaign to surge ahead of Obama's as nitrous oxide invigorates a drag racer. A wildly popular governor of Alaska (her home-state approval ratings are in the 80% range), Ms Palin epitomizes the "everywoman," many of whom supported Hillary Clinton's bid for the Democrat nomination. She's seemingly drawn many of those women over to the GOP side of the race and the Obama campaign is operating in panic mode. That's apparent by the obvious switch in tactics--almost from the first day Ms Palin entered the race alongside Sen. McCain. The Democrat base, represented mostly by the Daily kos, Media Matters, democratunderground crowd, aided and abetted by their friends in the so-called "mainstream media" started putting out some of the vilest, most vicious lies and distortions about Gov. Palin and even her family, that I've witnessed in my 66 years. In the last few days, Obama's campaign has resorted to racist attacks, seeing that it's class-warfare tactics haven't worked out as planned. They took a couple of quotes from old Rush Limbaugh parodies about illegal immigration and tried to tie them to McCain, claiming that they were "proof" that Republicans were anti-Hispanic. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Republicans aren't "anti-Hispanic" nor even anti-immigrant. All Republicans have been doing is demanding that immigrants come to this country LEGALLY, bring some skill of value with them, learn our language and use it and assimilate into the American culture instead of remaining "aloof" from it. To the Obama campaign, that's racist. How, they never bother to try to explain. I'll concede that it may be nationalistic, but to me that's a GOOD thing. We SHOULD be proud of our country and proud to BE Americans. I know that's anathema to many Democrats, but I firmly believe that MOST Americans agree with me. Obama (and all the Democrat candidates, for that matter) conducted his entire campaign on the theme that America is an evil, warmongering nation in the control of big oil, big pharmaceuticals, big insurance, big banking, big defense contractor businesses and that the "little guy" is getting the short end of the stick. This, despite the fact that the census bureau's own statistics show that, over the past almost 8 years, the average family income of Americans has outstripped inflation, people's take-home pay has improved due to the Bush tax cuts, inflation has almost stopped in its tracks and the average unemployment rate over those 7 1/2 years was as good or even better than during their vaunted "Clinton years." At least since he sewed up the Democrat nomination, Obama has said that we were "in a recession," apparently not understanding what a recession even is. It's been as if the Democrats were PRAYING for all of us to become depressed and angry in hopes that we'll be dumb enough to turn to them for surcease. It's a matter of no small wonder to me why Democrats have to hide who they are and what they believe in order to be elected. But then, I suppose it's not so puzzling after all. They, like most of us, understand that Americans do NOT want a socialist government and everything the Democrats believe and stand for in our national government. Obama's campaign theme has been, "America is a great country and I want to change it." Huh? His message has been one of "change" and "hope," while not being even remotely specific as to what SORT of change and hope about WHAT. To me, it appears that the "change" he wants and the "hope" he has is that he wants to change the occupants of the White House and he "hopes" its him living there...and that's about IT. He's been very UNspecific about his plans other than telling us about all the tax increases he intends to lay on us. He's said he intends to increase taxes on all of us by allowing the Bush cuts to lapse, that he intends to raise the capital gains tax, eliminate the cap on social security taxes and increase taxes on the top 5% of income earners (who happen to pay about 75% of all income taxes already.) I've often wondered if Democrats have EVER heard of the law of diminishing returns. It seems to me that they'll NEVER understand the old saw about killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. The panic among the Democrat faithful is beautiful to see...though it angers me a bit because their panic has caused them to come completely unhinged in their lies, distortions and vicious attacks. They've chosen an empty suit to represent them in this election and HE chose as his running mate a man who's made a bit over $5 million over the last six years and given about $3,000 to charity during that time. Oh, he's generous with OUR money...just not his own...which is typical of liberal Democrats across the board. I believe that the wheels have come completely off the Obama bandwagon and we MAY be looking at a GOP landslide in November. It's even remotely possible that we may regain control of one, if not both, houses of Congress. If McCain/Palin can manage to restrain the RINOs and "moderate" Republicans in such an event, we may have a great chance to get spending under control and get busy drilling and producing domestic energy and get some relief at the pump...and everywhere else in the economy that depends on the price at the pump. ------------ About the author: David A.
