Dont that beat all? * * * * By selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate, one might argue that John McCain is trying to cut into Barack Obamas huge lead among the under-34 crowd. As my friend E. Joyce Moore pointed out in her column in the Huffington Post, she was Governor of a state whose population is equal to that of Indianapolis, America s 12th largest city. Outside of New York, what other Mayor is a viable candidate to be a heartbeat away from the White House? Her allure is limited to male voters, as she is little more than a highly-publicized MILF. * * * * Howrd Dean accidentally referred to the GOP as The white party. The nerve! How many Hillary supporters are rallying behind their partys nominee? Do you really think this is because of the sexist way she was supposedly treated by the party leaders? Remember, it was those same men who were all too eager to coronate her. No, no these PUMAs are showing their real colorsor lack thereof. They wont support Obama because hes black, period. Anything else is pure b.s. At least the Republicans are blatant with their disregard of the black vote. * * * * In Antioch California , Section 8 tenants are under attack from their neighbors and the police departments CAT (Community Action Team). Those who are complained about are investigated by the police department, who then forward letters to the Contra Costa County Housing Authority seeking to have the tenants Section 8 voucher revoked. They dont attempt to arrange a meeting between the landlord, tenant and the neighbors; they seek to expel tenants who from the git-go are shunned because of their low-income status. In the Contra Costa Times online forum, racist banter (where many of the tenants are referred to with the n word) and spiels on how those people drive better looking cars than mine, are the norm. I recall as a youth, when a black person could not walk the streeetys of Antioch after dark. Now witrh a black population of about 12%, it seems like those days are coming back. Antioch had the second highest number of methamphetamine lab busts in the state, almost more than all of Alameda (read Oakland ) county. A meth lab explosion could levek an entire block, but these letter writers arent concerned with that. Theyd rather have a bomb factory next door than a family of people trying to get ahead. A class-action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of displaced tenants. The Superior Court of Contra Costa has already ordered the Housing Authority to reinstate on tenants voucher. With the planned razing of the El Pueblo public housing project (right next door in Pittsburg), tenants there have already been told that few would be transferred to public housing in Antioch, and that management told them they Already know the reason why. * * * * Armold Schwarzenegger is partly to blame for the budget impase in California, as it is now 66 days overdue. To resolve the issue, he plans to cut the wages oif state employees to the level of the federal minimum wage. This ass backwards policy hurts people who don't deserve it. The State Cintroillers has said he will not comply with the order. However, there is a better sdolution. In California there is a law that legislators can be jailed untila budget is passed. Why not use that law tio punish those responsible for this sad state of affairs? Where's Ken Huighes when you need him? * * * * On the lighter side,, so many comedy greats haven fallen by the wayside. Over the past three years, weve lost Rodney Dangerfield, Richard Pryor, Don Adams, George Carlin, Don Knotts, Charles Nelson Reilly, Harvey Korman, Dick Smothers and Bernie Mac.
