Oct. 16, 2008 The course of world history will, eventually, come into a monumental clash with the American version of the Whig Theory (Progress view) of history that insists that this country is absolutely unique and can, in fact, forever defy the normal historical pattern that all empires must pass away eventually. As Sparta (read: Russia), a land power, finally did away with the power of Athens (USA), a sea power, to be replaced eventually by Rome (China), a land power, so goes the reality of “temporary” sea powers usually to be replaced by expansive, innovative, aggressive, or resurgent land powers. With America being a decadent country (see: my earlier posted article elaborating this fact), fewer of the main scions of this country’s old elite leadership wish to waste, to them, their valuable time and effort providing political leadership. Politicians, some representing voices of the past, who superbly represent the last gasp of a part of the establishment/power structure, usually are sent competing with sure representatives of the forces of the soon-to-be future America, a new Weimar Republic. Few of the “best people” now want to be bothered with tiresomely managing the coming nadir of a sickly, democratically-oriented nation of multicultural, diverse, mongrel, and pluralistic, humanoid refuse, as the elite so cogitates upon such things. As ready and evident proof, the relatively low caliber of national American leaders since about the mid-20th century, as to average abilities and intellectual capacities, is highly reflective of the reality needing to be noted, though average political intellects in general, to be rigorously fair, are even shallow at best. It may, of course, take an entire century of exhausting time, if that long, for American power to finally dwindle to a simple, weak shadow of itself; but, Russia will, foolishly, come to think, once again, that it can be really the new Rome. The two, eagle and bear, will stupidly exhaust themselves and, as with ancient Sparta and Athens, be then logically replaced, more rapidly than Russia might have expected, by China, which will, obviously, thereby benefit importantly by the struggle for world domination; such mainly benevolent domination is now currently held by the USA, the Pax Americana that had, in the early 20th century, replaced the Pax Britannica. War with the United States will, significantly, prove to be a terrible miscalculation, a great blunder, on Russia’s part, for which it will, therefore, pay dearly. Instead of seeking possibilities for some creative though qualified partnerships and reaching some disjointed agreements that may not, in truth, be fully pleasing to both, yet, are held to be just good enough for the negotiating postures, Russia will, instead, seek to become much too adventurous. Its leaders, getting drunk with power, will absurdly come to trust the Chinese regime beyond, to say the least, reasonable degrees of viable prudence, as the latter empire seeks hegemony first in Asia and then, fairly immediately, much more global-power oriented ambitions. They, the Russians, will come, gradually, to put too much unwarranted and, ultimately, irrational faith in an assumed commonality of fundamental interests by not noticing how their Asiatic “friends” will insert the proverbial dagger, when a back is turned toward them. It may be prosaic to say so, but one can’t dance with the Devil without being burned (and by a possible nuclear holocaust no less). The Chinese, therefore, will most willingly pretend to enormously support the substantial interests, direct and indirectly considered, of a resurgent Russia up until the critical and decisive point; this is, surely, when it vitally becomes too convenient for them to handily betray their supposed northern ally, as a master stroke of regnant oriental ambition, so very opportunely founded; they are, as is known, ardent readers of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. The new Golden Horde, these Red Chinese masters, will clearly extract their tribute (without necessarily occupying its northern neighbor, Russia); they will, of course, originally posture to the bear as being an ally in the grand contest with America, while also secretly conspiring with the eagle to somehow weaken Russia’s position. All this can be historically foretold by proper and legitimate considerations of the geopolitical, geohistorical, and geostrategic realities, involved with world power considerations on a massive scale of insightful analysis, regarding national and international interests of a high magnitude. Even if Russia and America were full-scale and actual democracies supposedly seeking truly peaceful resolutions of various matters of dispute, their geophysical natures would and do render conflict more natural to their innate and integral dispositions as powers of this world. America, possessed of two coasts concerning both of the earth’s major oceans and having the need to maintain freedom of the seas for world trade, is the quintessential oceanic power of the now postmodern age; Russia, spanning a number of time zones due to its sheer and extensive geophysical mass, is the very epitome of a terrene power. Their ultimate geostrategic interests must, therefore, logically collide at various points. Their ultimate interests, even with the assumed best of intentions and good will among such nations, must and will, of necessity, clash and, sometimes, violently, though in the past through proxy wars (Korea, Vietnam/Indochina, Nicaragua, etc.), of course. Therefore, since Russia is not to be thought of as being on an appropriate course for attaining true democracy, any time soon at least, the national interests of such opposite powers, as noted, will tend toward conflict that might not be always settled by merely diplomatic or peaceful means. It is often stupidly forgotten, for instance, that after the fall of the Soviet Empire, it was revealed – shockingly! – that the bold Soviets had, in fact, actually printed up supplies of American occupation currency. (Yes, ever doubtful intellectuals, there was a true, existing Red Menace.) Soviet leadership had, therefore, seriously thought what was always (supposedly) unthinkable, meaning that they could and would win a war against the USA; and, then physically come here to rule their conquered territory. Of course, many useful idiots, as V. I. Lenin called them, dismiss such obviously empirical and objective, real evidence as simply a minor delusion of Cold War hysteria. Any nation, however, that corruptly produces such morally vile leaders, intent upon aggression, should be taken seriously enough in concrete and substantive terms of not disregarding hostile intentions that, at a minimum, are still real enough. The dubious triumph of the tricked bear, as above indicated, will be, however, relatively brief; it will be the historical case of a classic pyrrhic victory yielding nothing of any actual permanence that would be of genuine lasting benefit to Holy Mother Russia. Yet, ambition can blind and will, at least, partly obscure the vision of even those who like to supposedly think that they are certainly the accomplished grand masters of realpolitik in this world of big power players. They will, at their terrible peril, neglect vital geopolitical, geohistorical, and geostrategic matters of grave importance to any major nation and, more so, to any that have an ambition to be a great power having massive influence on the world stage. The bear will come to truly regret having made, in context, an insane decision, an illogical miscalculation of a vast order, to eliminate a simply sometimes troublesome competitor that would never seek to destroy it. America will be then replaced by a China that knows no limits to brutality; Russia will have jumped from the proverbial frying pan into the fire of an extremely unpleasant, new political reality not to its liking at all. Some of the thinking in this article, it can be noted, has been inspired by Patrick J. Buchanan’s Churchill, Hitler, and “The Unnecessary War”: How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World, meaning in terms of seeing the misuse of American power that has angered Russia and pushed most its interests into line with or toward China; this pertains to the former Soviet Union wanting to greatly challenge and, thereby, so readily undercut and slowly or otherwise destroy the United States’ power. Buchanan, as also the author of State of Emergency and Day of Reckoning, critically recognizes many of the same profoundly portentous dangers that are, increasingly, prevalent in the contemporary era. The United States by “NATOizing” some (or many) of the former Soviet colonies will, for instance, sustain and provoke further Russian paranoia (which is not, in fact, entirely unfounded by recorded history) about a growing and intentional /potential threat from the West, the direction from which Charles XII of Sweden, Napoleon, and Hitler came. Given that such knowledge readily exists by which people, even Russians, ought to know enough to want to avoid disaster, might it be then asked: Why wouldn’t different choices be intelligently made? As Hegel had remarked long ago, the only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history. Human beings, especially those in search of power on earth, are normally filled with overweening pride, inflated egos, and exaggerated ambitions (theologically, said to be sins) that lead them finally into the same old errors filled with misjudgments and miscalculations leading to failure. And so, the crippling of the USA will not ultimately benefit Russia but will aid China toward seeking to secure its, thus, predominant place in the postmodern world of the coming 22nd century and, of course, mainly against Russia who will have to learn to simply live with its useless regret that came, historically speaking, much too late. The death blow, by then, to current and degenerate Western civilization will have been made; and, the world’s political fate will be in the gasping hands of an Asiatic power not exactly given to generous humanitarian sympathies or altruistic gestures, to say the least. ------------ About the author: Joseph Andrew Settanni, CRM, CPC is a Certified Records Manager and Certified Professional Consultant with 30 years of professional experiencein data, archives, records and information management.
