Oct. 16, 2008 Unfortunately for Democrats, MOST of it lives in the bowels of the Democratic Party in this country. Think on it for a minute. Who is it that has brought up the issue of race during the current election campaign? It hasn't been Democrats...not once. Frankly, it wasn't even Hillary's campaign. Invariably, it's been the Obama campaign or Obama himself. Remember his imprecation that "they" are going to try to scare you because II [Obama] "have a funny name" or "don't look like those guys on our currency?" "They" did no such thing, but Obama and his spokespeople have continually brought up the subject of race--in my opinion to both urge black voters to turn out in record numbers and to lay a guilt trip on white voters. The Obama campaign has continued to imply that, if he loses in November, it'll be only because of "ill-concealed racism" on the part of white voters.
Bullhockey! I would vote for any politician in a heartbeat if he or she reflected my own politically conservative philosophy. In fact, I most assuredly have done so. Back in the 90's, my Congressman was J.C. Watts, Jr. and I actively campaigned for him and supported his campaign with my money--one of the few times I've felt compelled to do so. For those who don't know, J.C. is a black man who once was a very successful quarterback at the University of Oklahoma and is a lay minister with the Baptist Church. We had a few disagreements, of course. I told him on several occasions that his support for "affirmative action" was wrong-headed and tended to demean the actual, earned successes of black students and workers, but all in all, we agreed on most other issues, but not one time did J.C. consider my attitude about affirmative action to be because I was a racist.
The Obama campaign has implied that ANY opposition to his "coronation" as our next President MUST be racially motivated...which is utter nonsense. This is about political philosophy...NOT race...but you'll never get the left to admit that, most particularly if McCain wins in November. James Carville has even indicated that he believes blacks will riot in the streets if Obama loses next month...not that I don't believe that's possible--or even probable, given many blacks' response to the Rodney King verdict or the ML King Jr. assassination. For the life of me, I've never been able to figure out how stealing TVs or liquor or burning down the local grocery or bodega is an appropriate, or even understandable, "protest" for a perceived miscarriage of justice. I think it's usually just an excuse for stealing. Funny, isn't it, how "race riots" usually result in several fires and lots of TV's, booze,
cigarettes, clothes and furniture mysteriously "disappearing" from local stores?
Oh, there's institutionalized racism in America, all right. The only problem seems to be that the racists are mostly the blacks who think that because of past discrimination they are justified in being racist themselves and are also somehow "entitled" to special consideration. The racists in THIS election cycle are those running the Obama campaign and their surrogates in the so-called "mainstream media."
