Oct. 15, 2008 For those of you who have read my recent articles
you know that I have grappled with what to do concerning the forthcoming
election. I have been extremely dissatisfied with the choice of candidates and
angered that I am once again finding myself in the position of choosing the
lesser of two evils. Yet, here I am and that caused me to think a lot about what
I should do with my vote.
I am one of those people who considers the right to
vote an important part of my existence and I always vote no matter how
dissatisfied I am with the choices. This also caused me to think and think and
think.
I have watched the candidates and listened to them.
I have heard the rhetoric from both sides ad nauseum and I still pondered what
to do.
Suddenly it became clear after a simple phrase was
uttered on the campaign trail....a phrase that I have not only heard before but
have equated with a philosophy that I was taught to believe is evil and
un-American.
That phrase was "I want to re-distribute the
wealth". It was uttered by Barack Obama today.
Maybe I'm simply paranoid because I seem to be the
only one who placed a deeper meaning into Senator Obama's words. Maybe because I
am older than some and have memories of the cold war and all the fear that
went along with living through it came back to me like a bolt of lightening.
Maybe anyone younger than 50 doesn't understand what that phrase means (at least
to me).
I am an American. I believe in democracy and as
imperfect as it is, capitalism drives a democracy. I do not believe in socialism
and I don't believe that it works as witnessed in Communist Russia before the
cold war ended. I have read the works of Carl Marx and I never bought into the
idea that human beings are so altruistic that they could ever be happy having an
equal share of anything if there was even the remotest possibility that they
could have more.
I was almost willing to over-look Obama's many
shady associations. Despite the fact that he conveniently denounced all of them
only after he became a serious candidate for the
Presidency. I was willing to pretend that he never heard any of Reverend
Wright's many anti-American statements during his 20 year long association with
Wright's church. I was willing to over-look his association with Ayers (who's
actions I was totally familiar with being a child of the 60's), and Resko and
all of the rest of the guilt by association characters in the life and career of
Senator Barack Hussein Obama. I was willing to ignore his denials that Jesse
Jackson's anti Israel/Jewish remarks had anything to do with him or his campaign
organization and I even figured that his association and donations to Acorn were
possibly innocent and not a part of what I believe will turn out to be one of
the largest voter scams to ever see the light of day (if anyone really bothers
to investigate, that is).
What I could not over-look were those simple little
words, "I am going to re-distribute the wealth in America when I am
President". That struck fear in my heart and convinced me that I could
NEVER vote for Barack Obama.
This is still not my idea of making a good choice;
I am not happy with McCain's plans either, but; they do not
sound like I am listening to a speech in Red Square in the 1950's.
Just who is Senator Barack Obama and where did he
come from? Why are so many people following him blindly down a road that just
might lead us to a place that we will surely regret going too.
There isn't much time left until election day so
please listen carefully to what the candidates say and
if any of it strikes you as strange or reminiscent of times past....check it out
with someone who was around back then.
