Oct. 6, 2008 Due to my personal situation I vote on an absentee
ballot. I voted yesterday.
I am not going to divulge whom I voted for because
that's not necessary but I would like to talk about my opinion of each candidate
and their running mates. I am doing this because I was not happy when I voted
and felt like I had no real choice or anyone who I actually agreed with
politically or philosophically.
I'll begin with John McCain (although I have little
to say for or against). He's a nice man......a war hero and a decent human being
who I believe loves our country. I agree with him about our troops eventually
leaving Iraq victorious and taking care of the men and women who are there
protecting us and risking their lives. I also agree with him about Government
doing less and cutting spending although that seems to be unlikely anytime soon
since they are giving away our money like it's growing on trees. He as well as
his opponent voted for an absolutely ridiculous Bill that made it impossible for
either of them to claim that they are for smaller government.
Sarah Palin is someone who annoys me. I don't like
her stance on the issues such as abortion or guns and her accent and persona
drive me nuts. I am a big city person and she is just a little too folksy for my
liking. I also don't find her to be as sincere as she would like people to
believe. I think that she's a shrewd and ambitious woman and although I usually
admire those qualities to a certain extent, in her case I find her to be
cloying. Her "hockey mom" routine just doesn't strike me as who she really
is.
Barack Obama is a man I do not trust. His past and
present associations with certain people are frightening and his lack of sound
judgment is alarming. I don't believe that he can do what he says regarding
taxes because there is no money to do it with and there is no way that he can
lower taxes at this time. I also do not believe that he will achieve any type of
universal health care and if he socializes medicine that we will all regret it.
All one has to do is look at countries who follow this method to know that it
isn't the best way to insure that we all receive good and immediate health
care. I don't find him sincere and there is this messianic presence that
he seems to encourage that just simply creeps me out.
Joe Biden is a man who has no problem bending the
truth or stealing material from others and he's a loose cannon as far as I am
concerned. His "gaffs" are not amusing in my opinion and do not speak highly of
any real intellect. He is also a typical Washington politician (as is McCain) so
I don't trust him.
That left me in a terrible position as to who I
would vote for and I wound up voting against one of them as
opposed to voting for one of them. It was a very unpleasant
experience and sadly, one that I have grown used to.
So, I did my civic duty and voted but I don't feel
good about it. The alternative of not voting, which many people have told me
they plan to do wasn't an option but I truly wish that I felt better or at least
a little excited about my choices.
I hope that someday before I leave this earth I can
vote in an election where I am excited about the candidate I select and am left
with a feeling of hope for the country because of the choice I've
made.
That did not happen this time around. I
wish you an easier journey then I experienced
when you enter your local voting booth or vote at your home.
