Nov. 30, 2008 Walking along a sub-tropical sidewalk was a dark haired woman. She wore faded khaki pants that were the color of blue. On her top she wore a green t-shirt. She had silver hoop earrings that were medium sized. Since her hair was pulled up to a ponytail, some strands were left that fell about her neck. Her hair had streaks in it that were almost imperceptible. She had a very few freckles on her nose, from the sun. Cars went by. Her purse was cotton. There was a small tear in the right pants leg at the knee. In her purse there was a notepad, a penknife, a packet of chewing gum, a novel, a safety pin, a hair clip, and some money in the form of crumpled bills and loose change. Out over the sea the sun was setting, a great fire descending into the water. The dark-haired woman walked and walked. Someone stopped and asked her something, something about directions, the location of a street. She paused and was pointing back where she came from. Soon she walked on again, slowly, glancing over at the ocean. She was curious about the ocean. When she looked over at it she thought about how many secrets it held, secrets that could never be totally known. She knew that she was like the ocean also, that she could never be totally known, not even to her self. She came upon an area where someone was using a public water tap to clean the sand from feet. It was getting darker, and only a brief portion of the sun could be seen in the distance. She had reached the end of the part of her walk that was along the main drag of the shore. Soon she would have to leave that area and walk past the storefronts and into the residential streets. For the moment though, she had stopped, and was staring out at the sea. ------------ About the Author: For more of Brian's short stories, visit his website: http://www.freewebs.com/storyandstory/.
