Nov. 19, 2008 Bésame Mucho (Kiss Me Much) is a beautiful song that was written in 1940 by Consuelo Velázquez, a Mexican girl who hadn't even reached the age of 16 when it appeared and who says that she had never been kissed at that time. This is a very sensuous song that I feel fits very well the character of the composer. Unfortunately, it has been sung by such unromantic hacks as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and the Beatles. Oh well! It's still a beautiful, rapturous song, and I wish I could hear Consuelo herself sing it. I have known most of the lyrics since around 1960, but only with the rise of Internet did I get them down pat. I don't know which are correct. However, the phrase "tengo miedo perderte", which appears in many online versions, is wrong. It should be "tengo miedo a perderte". This has been discussed at length among the Spanish-speaking members of www.wordreference.com. Here is my quick translation: Kiss me, kiss me much, As if tonight were The last time.
