Nov. 1, 2008 If there’s anyone out there thinking America and Americans are safe from terrorists they are probably Americans affiliated with some terrorist cell and have direct knowledge of where the next attack will happen. In the article: “Spies Warn That Al Qaeda Aims for October Surprise Intercepted Messages Asking Local Cells To Be Prepared for Imminent Instructions by ELI LAKE, Staff Reporter of the Sun | September 22, 2008 http://www.nysun.com/foreign/spies-warn-that-al-qaeda-aims-for-october-surprise/86326/ : we find that our government, among others, is keeping an eye and an ear out for signature attacks from Al Qaeda. Recent attacks on western targets in Yemen and Pakistan may just be the beginning of a possible global assault in a major terrorist effort to affect the United States Presidential Election in November. The article is of interest as it runs through the litany of Al Qaeda tactics against the countries considered enemies to their brand of radical Islamism. But the warnings stated in the article should not be ignored. The United States may be safe for the moment, but the truth is the terrorists will not give up on any possibility to kill American innocents or members of the military. They have conducted operations over much of the free world and they were able to influence elections in other countries through a series of bombings and assassinations. From the article: “An official familiar with the new intelligence said the message was picked up in multiple settings, from couriers to encrypted electronic communications to other means…It was sent out on many channels.” “Also, Yemen's national English-language newspaper is reporting that a spokesman for Yemen's Islamic Jihad, the Qaeda affiliate that claimed credit for last week's American embassy bombing in Sa'naa, is now publicly threatening to attack foreigners and high government officials if American and British diplomats do not leave the country.” The threats are credible. The intelligence is sound. Al Qaeda is working up to something to disrupt one or several areas of the world at once. Quoting one source the article continued: "There is an expectation that Al Qaeda will try to influence the November elections by attempting attacks globally," a former Bush and Clinton White House counterterrorism official, Roger Cressey, said yesterday. Mr. Cressey said Al Qaeda lacks the capability to pull off an attack in the continental United States , however. "It would likely be a higher Al Qaeda tempo of attacks against U.S. and allied targets abroad," he said.” Is it safe to discount the possibility Al Qaeda “lacks the capability” to attack American cities? We have been down that road of self-assurance before. It only takes the wrong individual making the incorrect decisions treating terrorists as common criminals to cause more blood on American streets. Terrorists must be treated with a greater distain. The abilities of terrorists to attack anyone must be completely eliminated to have any claim to “safety”. Knowing how difficult it is to destroy a radical religiosity should keep America on the offensive. America has played the defensive and has attempted to bargain with and appease murderers who don’t care about life, liberty or happiness. The result only led to more attacks against America . Much of this misery could have been eliminated had one certain President acted to take Osama bin Laden, the so-called Al Qaeda “mastermind” into custody the three times he was offered up. What is past is past. Wherever Al Qaeda rears its ugly, ideological, murderous radicalism it needs to be annihilated. Appeasement and diplomacy is not the correct approach to indiscriminate killers. It is not wise to ignore the warnings of the intelligence community. Peace can sometimes lead to complacency.
