June 27, 2008 Barack Hussein Obama has some VERY savvy people behind him. I don't yet know who they are, but they've put on a teriffic PR campaign, designed specifically to make everyone believe that Obama is someone he's not, while not telling us anything of substance about who he really IS. So far it's working. Thousands of people are supporting him in his bid for the presidency...if not millions...yet, if you ask ANY of them, what specifically qualifies him to be President, not a single one of 'em could tell you what he's EVER done to merit their trust other than give mesmerizing speeches that don't say anything of substance and talk about "hope" and "change." Hope for WHAT or change into WHAT, he never seems to specify. Oh, we all know that HE'S "hoping" to "change" the White House from the Bush home into the Obama home, but beyond that, we don't know much about what he plans for us beyond what we can garner from the few specifics in his speeches and his voting record; as meager as it is. We know that he'll raise taxes...income taxes, excise taxes, corporate taxes, social security taxes, inheritance taxes and capital gains taxes. He's already promised to do that. He has yet to explain how taxing oil companies is going to produce more oil, however, and, until he does explain, we can be certain that our economy will be in the dumpers within two years of his assuming office. The clever PR campaign is designed to keep Obama a "blank slate" and his speeches are designed to allow the listener to project his or her own desires or hopes onto that slate without Obama having to promise or commit to much of anything...except higher taxes, of course. But those mesmerized by his speeches don't even seem to be hearing the higher taxes mantra because he SAYS he'll only "tax the rich," the same, tired, class-warfare rhetoric the left has been touting since LBJ. Why so many people buy into that nonsense is beyond me, but there are lots of people who are so envious of the 5 or 6% of income earners that they'd just as soon see them impoverished, believing that will somehow make THEIR lives better. By the way, that 5 or 6% already PAY about 75% of ALL the income taxes paid by individuals. Those earning more than $250K annually pay about 95% of the income taxes being paid today. That means that the remaining 5% is paid by the bottom 70% of wage earners. If you lower taxes, doesn't it make the most sense to lower the taxes for those who are PAYING most of those taxesw? What Obama apparently is proposing is to have that top 5 or 6% of tax payers take the burden of taxation completely OFF of the rest of us. And, most amazingly, he and alot of his supporters think that's somehow "fair!" Wake up and smell the roses, people. What he proposes for us is about a trillion dollars in NEW taxes....but he's going to "tax the rich," so it won't really affect us, right? WRONG! What do you think all those "rich" people are going to DO with their money if the government decides to steal half of it every year? It's going to wind up off-shore (which is EXACTLY what I would do if I had that kind of money and didn't want to give it to the thieves in Washington D.C.) That means that the only way the feds can get the money they need to finance all of Obama's pie-in-the-sky giveaways will be to raise taxes on YOU! And the chances that you'll have a job at all are pretty slim with all that cash going to Switzerland. And, don't think for a second that it won't happen. Democrats quite literally HATE the idea of giving common people their money BACK unless they can figure out a way to take credit for giving it back...invariably in drips and drabs, of course. Why take it in the FIRST place? Think about something for a second. The tax code is written in such a way that everyone is "entitled" to a tax "break" of some sort--deductions for charitable giving, mortgage interest, college tuition and the expenses associated with running your business, for examples. If the government can afford to "give" your money back in the form of deductions, why did they need to take it from you in the first place...of course, without interest? What needs to be done is for the government to take ONLY what it needs to operate its constitutionally-mandated functions...and not a cent more. Frankly, I'm infinitely more competent to decide how to spend the money that I earn by my own labors or ingenuity than any government bureaucrat will EVER be. I'll wager that YOU are too, so try to see past the brilliant PR campaign being waged on behalf of Senator Obama and remember one thing...if he's elected, you're going to regret it more than you can imagine and you're going to ask yourself, "How could I have been taken in by this bunch?" ------------ About the author: David A.
