June 6, 2008 In the Tuesday, May 3, 2008, column by Dr. Thomas Sowell, he wrote the following: "There is nothing more real than a man's character and values. The track record of what he has actually done is far more real than anything he says, however elegantly he says it." He was speaking of B. Hussein Obama--the presumptive 2008 Democrat Party nominee for the Presidency of the United States of America. The mainstream media has been overweening in rapture over this man's run for the most important job on the planet. Unfortunately, that rapture is mostly because of the fact that he's a black man--or at least half black, anyway--and like most liberals, the press considers the United States to be a racist society, so are enthusiastic about the idea of a black candidate. Senator Obama IS articulate (in front of a teleprompter, anyway) and is nice-looking, young, vigorous and quite adept at giving high-sounding speeches that don't really SAY much of anything. He's permitted interviews only where the questions were submitted beforehand and is well-rehearsed with his glib-sounding answers when the interview actually occurs. He talks of "unity," "reaching across the aisles," "the 'good' of all Americans," and other nice-sounding platitudes, but who is he REALLY? We are only just beginning to find out, it appears. The only way to REALLY understand who any politician is is by examining what he's done, who he associates with, who his friends are, what "causes" he's espoused, and how he's voted on issues of import. That's the ONLY way to understand the nature of his character--and if we learned nothing else from the Clinton years, it was that character DOES matter...a LOT! As a U.S. Senator, Obama has the dubious distinction of having THE most liberal, left-wing voting record in the Senate--out liberal-ing even Teddy Kennedy--yet not a single piece of legislation since his election bears his name as sponsor or co-sponsor. We've lately learned that the same thing applies to his voting record when in the State Senate of Illinois--except that, at the last minute, a Democrat friend added his name to several bills so it would LOOK like he'd been co-sponsor of significant legislation...sort of a politician's campaign welfare system, apparently. Oh, he DID manage to inject "earmarks" for his various friends and associates--about $200K to Father Pfleger's pet projects, for example, from the State of Illinois and another $100K from the U.S. Senate at Obama's urging. That's TAXPAYERS' money let's not forget. Today we learned that his church of 20 years has received an average of $1 million per year for the last 15 years--all of it taxpayer money supposedly for "outreach" neighborhood programs. As a "community activist," he was VERY active in the black community of Chicago espousing identity politics and various "entitlements," sort of a poor man's Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton. In all that time, NOT ONCE did he "reach across the aisle" and try to form a partnership with a single Republican....NEVER...so all his high-sounding, platitudinous "promises" when he's trying to get elected mean exactly zero, zip, nada, nothing. What a man SAYS is nothing compared to what he DOES, and Obama has a long record of DOING precisely the opposite of what he's now saying he'll do. Then there are his long-term "associates" and friends. It's certainly a legitimate thing to do to examine those with whom one pals around, considers to be friends and identifies as his "mentors." Even if we don't know anything about his personal behavior, we DO know quite a bit about his friends and associates--at least in part because they've been accommodating and have provided film of their speeches and tapes of their words. Obama and wife, Michelle, and their two girls have been long-time members of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Obama admits to a nearly 20-year association with the church and credits it's recently retired pastor for "bringing me to Christ" and "being my spiritual mentor." We now know that this church and its pastor have been preaching something called "Black Liberation Theology" a construct of a gentleman named Cone back in the 60's which was specifically designed to drive a wedge between blacks and whites both in the U.S. and in Central and South America, and which is believed to have been originally conceived of and paid for by the old KGB of the USSR. It's virulently racist, hateful, anti-American, and chock-a-block full of "entitlement" politics and redistributionism--in short, so socialistic as to be nearly communist. In other words, VERY unlike the Christianity that most of the rest of the world has practiced for centuries and CERTAINLY not Christ-like. One can just visualize Senator Obama and family, week after week, year after year, sitting in their pew pumping their fists, shouting and clapping along with the rest of the congregation every time his pastor accuses the United States of "inventing the AIDS virus to commit genocide against people of color," or describing the U.S. as "The U.S. of KKK." His recent leaving the church was a calculated move designed to help him get elected. It was most assuredly NOT because, all of a sudden, he's seeing for the first time, the hate, racism and anti-white sentiments held by his pastor and fellow congregants. President Bush (for whom I have no great love either, in particular) was soundly castigated for surrounding himself with a cabinet made up of long-time cronies, friends and associates. Clinton did likewise (though he didn't suffer the slings of the media because of it). Who do you think the cabinet of a President Obama will hold? Obama's friend Michael Ayers--the admitted Weatherman bomber who thinks he "didn't go far enough" when he bombed the Pentagon, Congress and the NYPD headquarters back in the 60's and 70's--along with his terrorist wife, Bernadette? How about Fr Michael Pfleger, the white priest who thinks white America "eats, sleeps and breathes racism?" Or how about Reverend Wright, Reverend Moss, or Louis Farrahkan? These radicals ARE the friends and associates of the Obamas. Why wouldn't we believe that these same sorts of radicals would be who he brings into the White House? The answer is, we shouldn't, because we've been so far unable to find a single friend and associate who doesn't share these known associates' ultra-left-wing, radical, racist politics. I overheard a radio interview today with a black caller. The host asked if the man would vote for Obama if he were a Republican and the answer was an emphatic "yes!" In other words, it's likely that 90% of black Americans are prone to vote for him simply because he's black without regard for his politics. NOW who are the racists? Fortunately, the black vote alone will NOT get him elected, it being only 13% or so of the population. I don't care one way or the other that he's a black man. I DO care that he's the farthest-left politician ever to aspire to the White House--worse in that regard than even George McGovern or Walter Mondale were. In my opinion, he's a VERY great danger to the United States. He's already stated that he wants to surrender in Iraq at the precise time when we and the Iraqis are making significant gains against the insurgents and Al Qaeda. He wants to unilaterally disarm us in the vague hope that the rest of the world will see the error of their ways and disarm also. He wants to personally meet with terrorist dictators, without preconditions--though about what, he doesn't say. Not only is he monumentally stupid about foreign policy, but he's naive beyond belief. Then again, maybe we NEED an Obama Presidency to wake the rest of the country up, and especially the Republican Party, which is out of power today ONLY because they just couldn't resist acting like Democrats themselves and spending us into near-oblivion.. ------------ About the author: David A.
