Jan. 26, 2008 I would really like to call this a rejoinder to Mr. Adamu Adamu’s piece, Daily Trust back page, Monday column of 14 January, 2008 (Daily Trust is a small tabloid of a few thousand readership concentrated in Northern Nigeria). The piece was a continuation or rejoinder to a response by the Israeli ambassador to Nigeria to an article Mr. Adamu wrote on the holocaust in which he largely quoted on material alluding to the fact that the holocaust was a 'true lie'. Mr. Adamu also borrowed, lifted heavily on the unstatesmanly ranting of the Iranian President Ahmedinijad. I would like to begin first by wondering out loud why Mr. Adamu cannot spend his creative investigative energy (assuming he possesses any) reporting or writing on familiar issues as the ‘almajiri’ problem of Northern Nigeria, homosexuality in Northern Nigeria, the ever recurring decimal of genocide in Northern Nigeria as a result of unprovoked and instigated religious intolerant views and actions which over the years has amounted to a ‘holocaust’ of its own right. Why can’t Mr. Adamu write on the refusal of Northern parents to allow immunization of their children? Now do my aspersions begin to raise any hackles... have some nerves begin to fray? If so, we are making progress. I will not dare delve into an (un)popular topic, which no doubt will be widely articulated by no other than Daily Trust, but such a controversial topic was broached by a fellow of the pen some where in Denmark who felt he had a dubious right to be outrageous, his ‘master piece’ caused religious riots in some parts of Northern Nigeria, a similar attempt at pun on the topic caused such tension that a beauty pageant was moved from Nigeria after much disturbances. Need I go on? The list goes on and on. That an issue such as the holocaust can be waved away dismissively without due consideration to the fact it is both painfully emotive and inflammatory is a product of a moronic thought process interested only in mischief. That the issue of the holocaust is a widely documented historical fact (disparaging and public denial of which in Germany is a criminally prosecutable act!) is downright foolish!! So what concerns me, a Nigerian, standing in the defense of Jewry, blandly and vulgarly put-anti-Semitism is what it is called, pure venomous and vitriolic hatred of the Jewish nation. That the holocaust is a widely documented fact even on the level of eye witness accounts of Russian British and American soldiers who on liberation of Germany from the Nazis gave individual harrowing accounts of chilling prison camps with names like Dachau, Birkenau, Auswichtz etc for anyone to question such, to dispute such a dastardly and shameful episode in human history is a product of the mind of a historian gallivanting on the border of fringe lunacy. Here I doubt the intellectual capacity of Mr. Adamu to carry out any informed investigative reporting on an issue as beyond his comprehension as this. So who are his sponsors? The fact also that Mr. Ahmedinijad who seemingly in a conscious moment of madness opened his mouth and mind to gab a load of rubbish unexpected of the lowest order of a diplomat much less from a head of state of a prominent theocratic country. Anti-Semitism is said to usually emanate as a distraction to economic depression in nations and Ahmedinijad must have considered himself a star, a venture capitalist in the anthropological field of anti-Semitic archeology which certainly does not give a carte blanche to anyone least expected in the journalistic endeavor to repeat his drivel (I did not even bother to belabor myself to read Mr. Adamu’s Monday January 14, 2008 piece – it was sheer drivel, a recanting of a madman’s verbal diarrhea). Mr. Ahmedinajad’s out burst was more than an appeal to the intolerant and fanatical elements of his following political or religious of the type found planning feverishly walking around strapped with jacket laden explosives, believing in a twisted cause which unguarded and careless statements like Mr. Ahmedinajad’s fuel and encourage. The Jews have always displayed an incredible degree of restraint in the face of any aspersions to the authenticity of the holocaust. So what if it were just six thousand Jews murdered? Or just six hundred or six Jews? Does that make it a less heinous crime an affront to civilization? People were killed en-masse as part of a well co-coordinated government sanctioned campaign to racially cleanse a people on an industrial scale! If Mr. Adamu Adamu was any writer or whatever literary minion worth his salt he would know that broaching such a sensitive issue is not only capable of causing ill feeling and discontent between the sovereign democratic nation of Israel and Nigeria but also capable of causing a serious diplomatic row even severance of relations, fortunately Mr. Adamu Adamu speaks for himself and probably a herd of those elements who were ready to go to Iraq and fight the Americans when the invasion took place. Most of anti-Semitism in our part of the world is based on blind sentiments that the Jewish nation is prosecuting fellow (Palestinian) Muslims, while in the real sense there just be as many Palestinian Christians or other religious persuasions, a fact quite comical if not for its severity as more than always we know here in northern who is prone to start a religious riot for the flimsiest of said injuries and set about destroying property and taking lives. Finally I find if baffling if not down right stupidity that history can be changed or that anyone may want to so the holocaust did not happen, according to Ahmedinajad and some others and due to that he wants to actualize the genocide, Mr. Ahmedinajad wants to give the world a holocaust twenty first century version – well, go right ahead! It is my guarantee that Mr. Ahmedinajad would sooner wipe Israel off the map than he and millions of his fervent followers together with millions of innocent Iranians would find themselves glowing radio actively in the afterworld wondering out loud which directions the Israeli nuclear missiles hit Iran from that is why the holocaust is recorded history because it shall never happen again Israel will not let it happen, the rest of the world will not let it happen; though for the rest of the world one cannot vouch for as they let Rwanda happen. May be they were people like Ahmedinajad who having the ‘misfortune’ of missing a live genocide allowed it to happen to sate their titillation. To conclude, the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria must have had a lot of time to waste responding to Mr. Adamu Adamu’s drivel though he cannot be blamed as it was his constitutional duty to check such literary nonsense. But then Mr. Adamu Adamu achieved his aim or and that of his puppet masters and has achieved instant notoriety and a step up from obscurity!
