Humans no doubt love themselves.  Often they love themselves far above God (company included) though many will protest otherwise.  And in admiring their stench of human self-righteousness they engage in self-aggrandizing exercises with the vigor of a hungry bear waking from his winter siesta.  Among Christians this reality is no different.  Simply because a man or woman has been born again does not guarantee some default personal adjustment away from the very thing from which they have been relieved of judgment, namely sin and in this case a particular type of sin, self-righteousness. 

The sin of human self-righteousness vomits itself upon us in many forms.  And in Christianity this sin often comes in the form of some external practice that others can see.  And while it is true the Bible makes clear certain requirements for believers which at times can be seen in outwardly, they are few and explicit and certainly are not to be done with the smug satisfaction that the believer is in some way morally superior.

However, the Christian is repeatedly seduced by the idea of being dissatisfied with their perceived righteousness by others or in their own minds. They want some form of SUPERIOR morality among believers and the world at large.

Understand, when a man or woman is saved, i.e. born again, they are not made personally morally better than anyone else; their self-righteousness among humans does not improve, it is their standing before God that is made righteous.  So for those who are attracted to the sin of self-righteousness, this area of weakness still exists (as do other areas of weakness in others, but that is not being addressed here). 

This brings me to the topic of a practice (and if not practice often tolerated or praised) among some Christian sects, namely THE STUPIDITY OF G_D.  What do I mean you ask?  I mean precisely what I said, THE STUPIDITY OF G_D. 

The name of God ( יהוה transliterated YHWH commonly pronounced Yahweh) which God Himself chose to reveal to the Jews was sacred.  And it was God Himself, to be sure, that chose to use this “voweless” form in Holy Writ.  However, at no place and at no time was there a communication by God that it could not be pronounced by any person except for the High Priest. This practice actually did not even occur until after the period of Ezra and Nehemiah and it was during this time that a form of human self-righteousness took hold which resulted in the erring conclusion that even pronouncing the name of God was blasphemous.  Again, remember, there is not boundary given by God that forbids the uttering of His name by someone other than a High Priest.
 

With this practice well ingrained we move to Christianity today.  It is no small reality or great accomplishment to see and understand that Christianity today is awash with jackassery of every kind be it Charismania, The Emergent Church, Calvinism, TBN, Rick Warren, T.D. Jakes, The Poli-Christ Movement, Homosexuals being ordained and so on.  And so among this mass of theological ignorance are those who, like gullible yet arrogant children, want to find some cleaver scheme, some new twist, some superior illumination that will result in them playing the role of “the smartest person in the room” or “I’ve got the latest and greatest from God”.

So somewhere along the way in the last 50 years some spiritual juvenile set up as a mature voice within the body of believers came across this historical form of self-righteousness wrongly instituted within Judaism. And obviously they too were attracted to this erroneous form of reverence toward God and presto, the infection spread as do most infections that are not treated with the proper anti-bodies, namely sound doctrine.

So what do we have today?  We have doctrinal idiots who really don’t care about the truth; they only care about appearing more righteous than their neighbor.  Because, in the end, that really is what THE STUPIDITY OF G_D is all about.

“Oh look”, they say with amazement, “A way to really reverence God and show people how much God must be respected and of course how much I revere and respect Him”.

Well fool, had you paid attention to anything other than your lust for some façade that others could see and be conned into believing you were reverencing God by writing G_d, you would have learned that there is no Divine mandate for such a practice nor is it even hinted at as a form of genuine reverence and in fact is based on a lie that pronouncing the name of God is blasphemous when it isn’t and this lie morphed into what you now practice in deliberate ignorance, namely writing God as G_d.  Of course none of that is important to you, really.  The truth is you are more interested in being impressed with yourself and how you imagine you are reverencing God, when of course you aren’t and God isn’t impressed in the least.

Some might wonder why this something to be addressed is.  The cause for such attention is because it is based on a lie first of all but more importantly it is a lie about God Himself.  That lie being that pronouncing His name is blasphemous and  based on this, the writing of God as G_d is more reverent.  It is a misrepresentation of the Word of God and the boundaries of God to people.  It is a bastardization of the truth that takes the commandment of not taking God’s name in vain and lies about what that commandment means and expects.

Secondly, it is important to pull back the façade of pseudo-spirituality practiced by believers and tolerated by too many others.  There is nothing reverent, nothing spiritual and nothing special about G_d.  It is based on superstition and not the truth of sound Bible doctrine and where one crack goes unattended it grows to become crippling.

So here is your challenge.  Take one more step away from the common ailment of human self-righteousness.  Quit trying to impress yourself, others and God with THE STUPIDITY OF G_D and start observing the greatness of God in truth.
