One For The "Gipper"

By Michael John McCrae
Jan. 21, 2008

Conservatism is alive and well. It just doesn’t vote much anymore. Conservatism has permitted itself to be watered down into something impalpable and unrecognizable.

There is still the occasional politician who’d see the country actually enforcing immigration law, or putting rapists and murderers where they belong; but lately, there’s been a rash of feel-good-ism that has permitted the parole and bail of some very heinous types (i.e. O.J. Simpson).

I’m sure there’s a politician out there who’d be willing to fight for children who have been born but left to die on a table or a trash bin somewhere because they were born with some goodness-awful syndrome or something. Is anyone questioning Obama on his votes in favor of such practices?

Government is meant to be seen and not so much in one’s pocket to be felt. Government is to be an entity of protection and not personal intrusion. Would someone like to explain that to McCain or Huckabee or Mrs. Bill Clinton?

I read excerpts from a Treasury Department report the other day explaining the percentages of growth in personal wealth. It seems tax cuts work well. The most recent data shows the richest people in America gained the least while the poor and middle class progressed far better. Rich people only saw a 10% increase in wealth due to tax decreases, while poor and middle class individuals achieved anywhere between 50% and 90% increases in income and worth.

Conservatism in taxation has always worked to improve job growth and consumerism. Would we see any candidate for office extolling the virtue of the Bush tax cuts while promising to keep them as a permanent economic fixture? Someone suggested the “flat tax” would be the most fair and I would agree with that from what I understand today. Yet a flat tax depends heavily on reduced pork-barrel spending from congressional hacks.

I have heard much of “fixing” or “changing” without any substantive comments behind the platitude. Everyone knows Washington must change. No one seems to understand it must change from the Constitutional-power-suppressing entity it has devolved into the supportive and protective agency is it supposed to be.

Instead of watching the shores and protecting against foreign and domestic enemies, the government instead concerns itself with condoms, abortions, multiculturalism, and liberal socialist idealism. We have already seen the results of such distractions in the destruction of American skyscrapers and the infusion of 12 million illegal invaders who are reaping the benefits of welfare, social security and discounts at Wal-Mart.

If there is blame, it is in the direction of Conservatives who have neglected their core values. They have believed the lies of liberals and their propaganda spewing media. They are content with their lives, unencumbered with the weight of having to worry about America . They believe America is okay.

Well, they are wrong.

There are foreign threats that are not being addressed by any of those seeking the nation’s highest office. I hear plenty about Iraq . I hear nothing of Iran , North Korea , China , Russia , and Syria , the Palestinians or any of the myriad smaller enemies of America . I know these are being looked at and discussed by the current government but I hear nothing from any candidate (except perhaps Thompson) in regard to future dealings on nuclear proliferation, Russia’s nuclear fuel sales to Iran or the future protections offered to Iraq and Israel against their mutual Islamic enemies.

There is a domestic economic threat too. All we are hearing though is how everyone seems to have their own “stimulus” plan. The plan is to throw money at people and hope they go out and buy something. Now what was that definition of “insanity” again?

Leave it alone and let the markets work themselves out. Business is a survival-of-the-fittest arena that does not require government hand-out, bail-out or intervention. Having to take out a loan to give $800 out to people to spend is circular economics. You still have to pay on the loan, with interest, which is counterproductive in the long run.

Conservatism is not dead. It is currently being misguided by false prophets and pseudo-seers who believe salvation lies somewhere within liberal ideology. It must be that. There is no true conservative leadership. There probably could be if any of those pretending to represent conservatism actually had conservative values or became unafraid of media distain.

Liberalism needs to be shown the door. I don’t see anyone with enough guts to display his digital rotation device to liberalism’s supportive media pukes. There once was a man like that. Yeah. Once.
