At long last Rush has been elected man of the year by a literary publication. Strange he has hardly ever been spoken of favorably within the media. Even the authors of books hardly ever mention his name and when the news media do mention him it is usually in an attempt to obscure an incident where he is accused of a faux pas. Things are twisted and eventually Rush comes out smelling like roses. He is (according to the left) after all one of the worst heretics to walk the planet, but rather than confront him directly, they prefer to side step the issue. I have been watching the drama of Rush and the left unfold for years. He first caught my attention while I was listening to a radio while doing something. He was rattling of a dozens or so sentences concerning what I mistakenly thought to be a denigration of western values. The usual anti establishment stuff of the day. I accompanied him in mock agreement until it dawned upon me that he was taking the same position as me; he was repeating the mantra of the left, but in such a way as to regale them with mock bombast. I was amazed. I briefly wondered whether what he was doing was legal and then quickly brushed the thought aside. Of course it is legal, but hardly fashionable. This was back in the late eighties and ever since them I listen to him whenever I get the chance. He is like a rock, never wavering no matter how bad the storm. When others begin to fold under the liberal onslaught he remains true to his values in much the same way as a good commander of soldiers in battle straightens a rank that appears to be rippling. At first I wondered when he would go under but no,no matter what he stayed on the air. If they screwed him in one way he would find another way. I was half hoping that the congressional attempt to censure him would be successful. I had visions of him anchored off shore beaming his show to an increasingly authoritarian liberal establishment, but of course the congress backed down as they would have made him a martyr: one still in operation although exiled.
Today he stands head and shoulders above the other
conservative talk show hosts seemingly
invincible. After the last great media defeat where
they accused him of labeling army personnel who
disagreed with him as 'fake soldiers' and he replied
by pointing out that the said soldier had only served
one month in the army and had never been outside the
US they must be getting very leery. Especially after
he raffled off a copy of the document in order to
raise money for the Marine Corps educational fund.
