![]() By Bonijean Isaacs Jan. 5, 2008 The RUMOR is that one of the Winners is a MUSLIM; he will not say the pledge of allegiance to the flag as he says it is against his religion. He will not place his hand over his heart during the playing of our national anthem, and when he took the oath of office to be a senator, he did not place his hand on the bible he used the KORAN. If I remember 9-11 it was Muslims who took over the planes that took down the trade center and killed over 3000 people and now one wants me to vote for him, I think not”. According to my Google Research, Presidential Candidate, Barrack Obama has Islamic Roots but he is
not a practicing Muslim. His Father was born in Kenya Africa and a “Jack Muslim” whose personal beliefs were closer to Agnostic. He considered himself a Muslim simply because that was the predominate faith in his community. This can be compared to many of the United States Citizens who call themselves Christians but they don’t attend Christian Churches , read the
Christian Bible or even follow the Christian Rules. It is simply easier to say that they are a Christian because they are surrounded by mostly Christians. My Grandfather was Jewish and my Mother was Catholic but that does not make me a Catholic or a Jew. I chose to be a Unitarian-Universalist but my spiritual beliefs go along the Deist School of Thought. Obama was raised by his Step-Father and Mother in the Catholic Faith but exposed to Islamic Teachings for educational purposes. He is currently a practicing member of the United Church of Christ. He doesn’t appear to be a man who gives his spiritual path lip service for politically correct purposes. The fact that he has some knowledge of the Islamic Mindset may be an advantage because many of our enemies practice that faith. I can respect the man but it doesn’t necessarily
mean that he has my vote. One of our founding Fathers and former President Thomas Jefferson was also a Deist. He understood the Wisdom of Separating the Church and State. "I do not believe it is for the interest of religion to invite the civil magistrate to direct its exercises, its discipline, or its doctrines; nor of the religious societies, that the General Government should be invested with the power of effecting any uniformity of time or matter among them. Fasting and prayer are religious exercises. The enjoining them, an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the times for these exercises and the objects proper for them according to their own particular tenets; and this right can never be safer than in their own hands where the Constitution has deposited it... Everyone must act according to the dictates of his own reason, and mine tells me that civil powers alone have been given to the President of the United
States, and no authority to direct the religious exercises of his constituents." – Quoted by -Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Miller, 1808. We certainly don’t need a return to Puritan Times when Folks were legally sanctioned for swearing, sleeping during sermons, and skipping church. A Citizen in Puritan Society who spoke
against religion or denied the divine origin of any book of the Bible could be subjected to public humiliation. They could be locked in stocks while public threw rotten vegetable at them and called them names. Quakers were banished from Puritan Communities and hanged if they returned. Practicing Christians in Salem , were accused of witchcraft and executed. A Toddler was accused of Witchcraft and left in chains the prison. After the witch trials ended, many were still in jail because they could not pay for their release. The law stipulated that prisoners had to pay for their food and board before being released. Unless the prisoners or someone else could pay for these expenses, they could not be freed. Additionally, those who were convicted of witchcraft had their property confiscated by the government. This left their families impoverished and homeless. "History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil
as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes." – quoted by Thomas Jefferson to Alexander von Humboldt, 1813. I respect Obama’s right to be a member of the United Church of Christ. My question is if Obama becomes the President; will he respect my right to be a Unitarian-Universalist? If Pat Robinson became President, that would be really scary. I respected Presidential Candidate George W. Bush when he responded to questions about the cocaine
use in his youth with “none of your business.” When Bush declared that”Wiccans in the Military do not have a right to worship at Fort Hood , Texas because “Witchcraft is not a religion,” he lost my vote. It is unlikely that Barrack Obama will get my vote. Regardless, I don’t have to believe a bunch of mudslinging propaganda about him.
