Dec. 27, 2008 Since last Thursday, when the remains of a small
child were found less than a quarter of a mile from the home of Casey
Anthony, the talking heads have had a field day criticizing the prosecutors and
law enforcement officials in Orlando, Florida.
Casey Anthony's once decrepit and inexperienced defense
team has turned into the proverbial "Dream Team" of OJ type hype and fame.
That seems to have empowered them to believe that the police should allow them
to observe the active and ongoing investigation of a crime scene among
other requests that were denied by a judge. The talking heads (Geraldo, in
particular) feel that the prosecution made a gross error by not allowing these
high paid hacks to attend the post mortem examination of the skeleton found at
the crime scene and at the FBI lab in Quantico where DNA tests will be conducted
to positively identify the remains.
Since when do police allow ANYONE, let alone a defense
team onto an active crime scene? You will always see yellow tape strung around
any such scene and NO ONE is allowed anywhere near it until the police are
completely through with their investigation and search for evidence.
As for the FBI lab..good luck getting inside while
they do their work.
As with most cases, evidence will be preserved for the
defense to examine and even conduct their own tests on when, and ONLY when the
authorities who have jurisdiction are done with their work. Some states allow
the defense to observe autopsies but usually they have a positive and final ID
on the deceased before allowing this to take place. Until the DNA tests are
completed there can be no absolute identification of the skeletal remains of
what once was most likely a three year old little baby. Unless the family had
taken Caylee Anthony to a dentist there would be no way to use dental
records to identify her with and even taking
anthropological measurements of the skeleton and matching hair color is NOT
a positive identification.
It was stated by Dr. Michael Baden (husband of one of the
new defense team members), that before DNA they identified many bodies. True,
but it took months to do so with only a partial skeleton, a few strands of hair.
There were also morgues all over the country filled with John and Jane Does.
Casey Anthony will probably stick to her preposterous
story that an imaginary "Nanny" not only kidnapped her little girl, but killed
her and dumped her 15 houses away from the Anthony home. She will probably
discount the fact that some evidence was recovered that led the police DIRECTLY
back to the Anthony home where a third search warrant was executed after the
remains were found. This is the very same Nanny that NO ONE ever saw or talked
to and who was babysitting for the child while her mother did not have a job and
was so low in funds that she had to steal from her best friend to shop at Target
for herself.
This is the same Casey Anthony who only seems to show
emotion when something concerns her directly and NEVER mentioned her missing
child to anyone as she failed to report her missing for 31 days.
This case really gets to me as I am a grandmother
and I have a grandchild near the same age as the little girl who was most
likely murdered. Whenever I look into her beautiful little face I
can't even fathom how anyone could hurt such a precious little child.....let
alone someone who should have been protecting her with their
life.
Let's hope that Lady Justice doesn't turn her back this
time and that the guilty are punished no matter how high powered or
famous the defense team is.
It should also be mentioned that Linda K. Baden and Dr.
Henry Lee had their reputations tarnished during the Phil Spector trial for
misrepresenting evidence. Perhaps their desire for the spotlight outweighs their
desire for the truth.
