Dec. 3, 2008 Although I can't stand Ann Coulter and find her overly
aggressive, loud and obnoxious, I must agree in part with her recent book that
discusses how people from the entertainment industry often are very outspoken on
all things political and attempt to influence us. I also agree with her that
most of these folks have absolutely no experience or knowledge regarding
politics and are no more equipped to influence the public than any of
us.
To prove my point I'd like to quote George Clooney when he
spoke about Obama and the ability to be a leader:
"He (Obama) possesses the one quality that you cannot
teach and you can't learn-he is a leader".
Huh? Does this mean that all other arenas of learning such
as the legal profession, medical profession, business schools, police academies,
military branches and such should simply close their doors and give
up?
Does this mean that no one without Mr. Clooney's
so-called leadership gene can ever be a leader? I believe that he is full of
crap regarding many subjects, but really proves his ignorance when it comes to
his opinion on how a leader must be born rather than taught.
According to Matt Damon, "I think a lot of problems in the
world would be mitigated if he (Obama) were the face of our country".
Really? I guess that since President-elect Obama has
already been elected that the attacks in India this past week were just
imaginary and that they simply didn't realize that Obama was going to be our new
President. According to Matt, they surely would have never attacked if
they knew about Obama's new role as the "face of our country". It will be
interesting to see if we and all other nations are spared any sort of terrorist
attacks during Mr. Obama's presidency. Somehow I doubt it.
It isn't the "face that represents our country" that
causes people to hate Americans, it is what we stand for and how that differs
from the philosophies of others that cause the hatred that some have for us and
our way of life. Attacks have occurred throughout several past presidencies and
even when the leader of the free world was not hated as George W. Bush
is, many people wanted to destroy us and what we stand for.
Jennifer Garner said, "Barack Obama is change and promise
and hope".....which I find kind of weird since the majority of people he has
chosen thus far to fill the roles in his forthcoming cabinet are from the
Clinton era (including Hillary herself as Secretary of State). What's different
about that? Where is the change?
I believe that it isn't the President who makes a
difference in our every day lives, but the Congress and we certainly didn't get
much change there in the last election. They had many opportunities to make life
easier for many of us who are in a financial crunch yet they decided to feather
their own nests, enrich the coffers of the companies that their lobbyist buddies
represent and table many important issues such as health care, education and
social security to name a few.
I think that it's time for Americans to stop worshipping
at the alter of movie stardom and following the lead of some rather stupid
individuals who happen to be talented at their particular craft. It's time for
us to listen to the truth instead of the dribble that is being spewed by the
likes of George Clooney and his friends.
If Mr. Clooney is right, than all of you who hope to
succeed in life and lead in your chosen field might as well apply to work at
McDonald's because unless you are a born leader you
will never succeed.
