Sept. 10, 2007 One of the most astonishing things to have happened over the last couple of weeks is the Democrats' ability to divine (and criticize) what is going to be in General Petraes' report to Congress on the situation in Iraq before it's given. The Democrats' talking point seems to be that this is "Bush's Report," apparently attributing to the general political motivations usually reserved for the worst sort of panderer...such as Senator Clinton.or Congressman Murtha. Apparently fearing an optimistic report on real progress in the War on Terrorism, the Democrats have launched preemptive strikes telling us all that an honorable warrior with over 20 years of stellar service to the U.S. Army is going to lie through his teeth to appease his Commander in Chief. Bush Derangement Syndrome at its worst. When did we get to the point where an entire political party's success is entirely dependent upon their own country LOSING a war? It hasn't been all that long ago that when our country was at war, both parties worked to win it before reverting to the politics-as-usual mode. In fact, it was considered treasonous to do or say anything that would help the enemy. Democrats hate George Bush so virulently that they have been working since day one to undermine our efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq, apparently believing that, if we lose, it'll restore them to their former positions of power and control...a return to the "good ol' days" of JFK, LBJ and Jimmy Carter, when they controlled not only the nation's purse strings, but the White House as well and could do pretty much anything they wanted. One of the things they did, if you'll recall is spend 5 TRILLION dollars over 30 years on the vaunted "War on Poverty" which didn't reduce poverty by even a single percentage point. In fact, it could easily be argued that "poverty" INcreased under these programs as people became dependent upon government largess. We saw three generations of welfare families emerge, finally to be reduced in number only when the GOP took control of Congress after 41 years in the wilderness and passed massive welfare reform...over the objections of Bill Clinton. You'll also remember that Clinton vetoed welfare reform twice until his advisors and focus group studies determined that opposition to reform was hurting Democrats--who kept losing elections. Incredibly, aided and abetted by the media, Clinton then proceeded to take credit for welfare reform passing. I mention all this to merely demonstrate the perfidy of Democrats when it comes to the game of politics. NOTHING is sacred except their control of the government. They have been pounding on Petraes' report to Congress and it's not going to be even presented until September 11th and it's only the 9th as I write this. The criticisms have been coming hot and heavy for a week now, containing accusations that the general has "fudged the numbers" to make things rosier than they are. One can only wonder just HOW all these Congresscritters know what's even in the report...let alone how they could possibly know the report is phony? Prescience must be the answer...being able to tell the future before it happens. One can then wonder just how they came by this wondrous talent? The answer, of course, is that they are neither prescient nor honest with the American people. They complained that we didn't find WMD's immediately. When we DID find 'em, they complained that they weren't in the numbers we'd been told. They complained when Saddam Hussein evaded us for so long. When we caught him, they pooh-pooh'ed the fact that he was caught as being "insignificant," and then proceeded to complain bitterly as he was tried by his own people, convicted and executed for the well-known crimes against humanity that he'd committed over 30 years in power. The Democrat Party has been co-opted by the extreme left--the unreconstructed communists and far-left socialists left over from the 60's and now being churned out of our institutions of "higher learning," which have become havens for many of those same 60's radicals. They went to school on daddy's pocketbook (or on the government's nickel) and discovered that teaching paid pretty well at the university level. There isn't much actual "work" involved, and they can teach any screwball idea they choose once tenure has been achieved without much fear of losing their jobs. It's a real shame that Democrats have come to treat patriotism, love of country and national unity as characteristics to be ridiculed if they don't lead to more power for them. ------------ About the author: David A.
