Sept. 7, 2007 I have had some minor experience with Rita Cosby the author of the new book "Blonde Ambition". This the story of the late Anna Nicole Smith and it is loaded with accusations based on a couple of witnesses that are sketchy at best. Jackie Hatton, a so-called, self-proclaimed "Good friend" of Anna's is one of two main sources for Ms. Cosby's allegations that Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead were lovers and that they colluded to share the money that Anna's estate may or may not ever collect from the estate of her late husband. Ms. Hatton had not seen Anna for two years and although she claims that Anna wanted to get in touch with her, that never happened. Also, Ms. Hatton's brother is currently serving time in prison for stalking Anna. Not much credibility there from my point of view. Every time I turned on my television set during the arduous coverage of Anna's death I saw Ms. Hatton's face on every show. She had something to say about every aspect of Anna's life even though she had no recent contact. She became an authority on everything Anna.Geraldo hung on her every word and that alone tells me that she had zero credibility. Ms Hatton and Zsa Zsa'a pseudo Prince husband were like a bad taste in one's mouth that refused go away. It wasn't enough for Rita to attempt to keep jobs on both Fox News and MSNBC where she rattled on and on in her hoarse voice about all manner of subjects that appealed to the public's interest in the maudlin and the tragic....she couldn't keep those jobs so of course, the next step was a salacious book based on sleazy sources and speculation that she insists will stand up in court. The second source for Ms. Cosby's book is a former Nanny who worked for Howard and Anna and who is obviously a very disgruntled employee. She too has turned up to put her two cents in concerning the death of Anna's son, the death of Anna, Larry Birkhead and Howard Stern. She and others have claimed that a tape exists that proves that Howard and Larry were partners in crime where the estate was concerned. Of course, Rita herself has not seen this tape and took the word of others. Lin Wood, a very powerful Attorney is suing Rita and various members of the publishing industry as a result of the statements made in the book and I hope that Rita's publisher keeps his word to back her up and cover her legal costs because they will be plentiful and most likely will be far greater than the money made on book sales. Lin Wood is known for winning this type of lawsuit and takes no prisoners. In my very minimal experience with Ms. Cosby, I learned that I could not trust her and was glad to see her gone from both Fox and MSNBC. Her stories all bordered on the sensational and she came to represent a female Geraldo Rivera to me. In the beginning I believed that Ms. Cosby was out to get to the truth of what she reported on but gradually I came to realize that she was out for the glory and the notoriety and that truth was at best, secondary to her reporting. I never met Ms. Cosby but I watched her show during the Holloway investigation and spoke to her on a speaker phone during a meeting regarding that case. I had high hopes that she would cover the case fairly and for a while she did....for a SHORT while, that is. When she began to call upon Arlene Ellis Shipper as a regular guest on her show I knew that Ms. Cosby wouldn't know the truth from a lie and I lost all respect for her. All of that is in my past and I have no interest in going backwards in time but I am once again disgusted by Rita Cosby's need to expose the prurient and the speculative. I am hoping that Lin Wood and the clients who are bringing suit against Cosby do get to the truth and I am hoping that someone will finally expose her for the attention hungry, driven person that she is. Reporting the news or writing books about people where there is a chance that their lives may be destroyed is not a vocation that I respect or believe should go unchecked. Using sources like the very suspect Jackie Hatton and others of her ilk is skirting the lines of decency and I hope that if they are lying it is exposed. I doubt very much that any of these people are doing this to honor the memory of their so-called friend, Anna Nicole Smith, but are far more interested in extending their 15 minutes of fame which came to an abrupt halt when the subject matter finally lost it's public appeal. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling.
