Helium.com Looks Good On The Surface But Look Deeper

Useless-knowledge, on the predator and editors, is not recommended to writers. I knew this when I started writing for UK four years ago because I went to P&E.

Here is why I choose to ignore the helpful advice of P& E:

I only wanted to share my opinions, and UK was higher than a blog, at the time in my opinion.

I have gotten several e-mails from fellow writers about this web site, www.helium.com. I went a few months back, before UK started to die to investigate. I decided then that Helium was not for me.

After the fighting and the authors leaving the site, I decided to revisit Helium. A woman on Café moms wrote me and asked me if I knew about Helium. I told her yes, and have not heard from her again.

This made me curious. What was it about Helium that got writers to flock there in droves?

Of course, it is the promise of payment.

Well, I could not get information on how payment occurred until I signed up. So I did yesterday, Oct 22, 2007. Here is what I found out:

“Earn 5% of the article earnings of each writer you invite who accepts.”

Plus you can get payment on shared advertising revenue. A person clicks to read your article and you get paid. But it is not that simple. You have to be rated first, by the other writers. Then you are lost in the many similar articles written. Helium is a big popularity contest and pyramid scheme.

I went to Predators and Editors, I could not find a reference to this new site that prays on the dreams of fellow writers.

At least with UK, you get what is advertised and explained. A person receives free advertising and recognition as a columnist. On Helium, if you are good at sales, you can get a lot of your fellow writers to write for you. If you are good at become the popular kid in school then you get a reward.

I have scoured the website for a cancel my account and have not found one yet. At least the editor on this site will delete you and your work when requested. Helium is a web site individuals need to research before joining. Writer’s beware.
