By Ken Hughes Oct. 16, 2007 A few weeks ago I submitted a letter much the same as Mr. Stelly expressing the hope UK could make a come back to its original greatness. I was rewarded by juvenile alterations of my picture, when I complained to the editor my picture was further altered making it even more despicable. I chose to ignore this insult, knowing I was the better man for it. I’ve since received an e-mail from the editor saying it was someone else who had access to the site and assuring me it wouldn’t happen again. There was no explanation or apology and in my opinion this is where the Useless Knowledge Editor is coming up short. The editor has reason to apologize to hundreds of former contributors and readers who were responsible for building on a web site that at one time encompassed the world with hundreds of followers. They are owed an apology. I’ve received a number of e-mails suggesting I’m a fool for trying to rekindle something that in their opinion has sunk so low there is no redemption. In my opinion there’s always room for redemption. However I was beginning to agree until Tim Stelly stepped up to the plate. Tim and I have not always agreed. We are both passionate about the same issues but see different way of accomplishing our goals. There’s one thing that can be said for Tim he’s a man of conviction and of fairness. When I read his letter to the Editor it was time for me to write another in the hope it will encourage the editor of UK to make an effort to bring the site back to what it was, sans the Darth Vader’s. In other words do some serious editing on the return. The WWW needs a Useless Knowledge where novas writers can cut their preverbal teeth without fear of ridicule. UK has rules in the future let’s hope they’ll be followed. If I’m wrong about UK Tim, then at least we tried and we can’t be sent to hell for trying. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman, who’s traveled extensively, observed much and learned much.
