Oct. 15, 2007 Editor: I’ve noticed the stagnation of the UK website, which in my view is tragic. There are a lot of fine writers that remain, and the alien anal probe/pedophilic crowd has apparently been banished. Where UK was once a bastion of debate—admittedly, at times it was ugly and vociferous—it provided the reading public various perspectives on many of the social and political issues of the day. Furthermore, there were well-written and informative articles on music, travel and other aspects of every day living. UK, however, is still missing something: Its heart and soul, which were the talented and prolific writers who fled in droves, as they saw one of the best sites on the web slide into a sinkhole of narcissism and backbiting—nothing remotely approaching journalism or even relevant writing. I think UK can regain its former status as the best news analysis (and most interesting) site on the web by (1) Recruiting new writers, many of whom contributed once or twice and were never heard from again. One such person was E. Joyce Moore; (2) Recruit younger writers, such as Jack Lepiarz; and (3) Invite the following writers back and feature them: Ron Lewis, Claxton Graham, Fred Smith, Steve Dayton, Ken Hughes, Patrick Hurley, Brooks A. Mick, Judy Ramsook, Hal Von Luebbert, Meri Ul;rich, Michelle Malsbury, Robert Paul Reyes, Kaycee Nilson, et al. (4) Maintain a tight editorial reign, so that irrelevant articles are left off the site and that spirit of intense debate is recaptured (within reason, of course). I offer these suggestions not as a criticism, but as a suggested first-step toward returning UK to its once-proud past.. ------------ About the author: Timothy N.
