Oct. 1, 2007 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” Deuteronomy 30:19 God watches every day. He hears the thoughts and intents of the heart of men and he listen to the words spoken. God does not wonder about men. God knows men. He knows that the unsaved have no good intentions, especially concerning eternity. He allows men their thoughts and intentions. God calls every day too. He calls from the heavens using his invisible testimonies. Some men see these calls and respond in faith. Too many others ignore the voice of God in the heavens and face God’s rejection in judgment. God calls through devout men. He does not wage jihad against men, but permits men to their individual follies. He sends messengers into the field of men to explain his grace and his availability to all. God’s messages are simple; all explaining a quiet gift of faith that is readily appreciable and obtainable. God does not get involved in the petty religious squabbles of men. God has not only laid out his active plan of salvation, but he’s placed in the hearts of faithful men his laws concerning righteousness. The one who has come to faith can readily understand that God never needs to change or rearrange or suspend or amend a law he has spoken. These are plain rules that, if followed, lead to joy in the life of the believer. There is no fear. There is no awkwardness. The one true God of heaven is he that is spoken of in the Hebrew/Christian Bible. There is no other god or type of god to be concerned with. Men struggle with a God who is love yet allows men to practice hatred toward one another. Men do not look to their future. They only grieve about the present. Eternity is abstract and is thought unnecessary. Men live to build legacies among other men who really don’t care. The only true legacy is one built in service to God. So God has made things simple for us who were born into the human world of sin. He sent Jesus among us to explain his Father and his Father’s workings to save at least a remnant of men to enter into the eternal kingdom. In each subsequent era of human history some men believed the history of the Lord Jesus and carried that belief to the next generation. Each generation of men can claim a small council of faithful souls that were unafraid of the ridicule and scorn of those following man-made religions or the godlessness of atheism. There was a recent article ironically published on a religion page that caught my attention. It concerned a sort of resurgence of atheism in America . What intrigued me is that the article was on the “religion” page. I have always believed atheism was a religion because it takes so much faith to reject the overwhelming evidence that God exists. Yet it doesn’t matter how many reject God. The scriptures are true in telling us that no man actively seeks God. It is God who is the seeker of fallen men. Very few men have given themselves over to faith. The Holy Spirit indwells the few; not the many. God does not have to prove himself to any man. The men who have come to faith and knowledge have received the Christ, the gift of salvation and the seal of the Holy Spirit. This is all the “proof” necessary for a believer. We know God and have a familial relationship that will last for the entire of God’s eternity. God has “set before” men the choice of life or death. This is an individual choice that can only be made between any single soul and God. God responds to anyone willing to see and receive life.
