Will The Real Candidate Please Stand Up?

By Stan Grimes
Nov. 28, 2007

Needless to say this is one of the most important presidential primaries to come along in years. Who is best suited to turn this country around? Who can renew the constitution upon which we built this country? I think that most of America is in agreement that our democracy has faltered. Not fallen perhaps, but definitely faltered. We are kind of like those old toys, Weebles. Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down. Americans won’t fall. Khrushchev was wrong.

We have heard an over abundance of promises from both sides of the aisle. Old politics as usual keeps creeping into our debates, mudslinging, race, gender, and religion. They won’t go away especially now that primaries are close at hand. I have decided to ride the independent road this year. I like the things Huckabee has to say and likewise I am tuned into the words of Obama. When it’s finally my time to walk into the polling booth I may have to toss a coin.

If truth were known perhaps John McCain is the man. He carries the torch of leadership among all candidates, but is he electable? I don’t think so too many bad memories from eight years ago and let’s face it he isn’t getting any younger. He looks unhealthy and Americans don’t elect sick-looking people. Cheney is an example of sick-looking people. I think he’s lied under oath so many times, his heart just can’t handle the truth…he’s a crook.

I have thought for the past year a well-organized and well-funded third party could offer a solution, but no one has stepped up to the plate and Americans, so far, have not indicated a desire to work outside of the two-party system. A third party unfortunately throws a cog in electing your favorite candidate. It’s too bad really, because there are some highly electable people out there. For example, I would gladly vote for the winner of American Idol. Also, I gladly would punch Pamela Anderson’s buttons (no pun intended). And of course, I would cast my vote for Lou Dobbs in a heartbeat.

And, I suppose my old writer-friends on Useless-Knowledge thought I was going to write something serious and useful. I fooled you old conservative farts didn’t I? I have written over two hundred articles…you should know me by now. Now seriously folks this election could mean everything to our children and our grandchildren. If America doesn’t wake up, it could possibly be in Wikipedia someday on the same page with other fallen democracies. I urge you to vote and keep America’s right to bear arms, right to freedom of speech, the right to speedy trials, and the right to wear a sombrero to church on Saturdays or even Tuesday. Our constitution was written by the people and for the people…even conservatives.
