Nov. 21, 2007 World figures for the most spoken languages put English second from the bottom. However when the list of the worlds most used languages is studied English is at the top. When looking at populations figures it will be noted that those of European extraction are near the bottom of the list, those at the top the people of China, India, Africa and a conglomerated of Middle Eastern countries. Some have concluded that western civilization is on its last legs and about to collapse. If Europe is no longer able to sustain its population without third world immigration it is argued it will soon disappear. In a similar vein it is also argued that with the massive influx of new cultures into the US it too will eventually cease to exist taking on the fabric of an entirely new entity. All of this is based upon numbers .Who are these people who are abut to take over the world? India ceased to exist with the fall of the Gupta Empire five hundred or so years after the birth of Christ .It was then ruled by a circle of kings who engaged in almost constant warfare until the continent succumbed to a variety of invaders ending with the coming of the British who founded modern India. China since its founding by Chin chi Huang in 221 BC has suffered constant internal rebellion and external invasion, which sometimes combined so as to bring in a new dynasty. With the imposition of communism the threat of invasion and internal rebellion has diminished. India and China owe their present day position to westerners; India to Clive, Napier and Mountbatten, China to Karl Marx who was influenced by the philosophers Heidegger and Niechze (Heidegger never renouncing his National Socialist connections) You can take the position that numbers will take the day, those with the larger populations swamping all of the others. If this is the case how did the Greeks survive the eastern hordes constantly pressing their borders or the latter European colonies, set in a sea of heathen tribes and medieval kingdoms, manage to not only hold on, but to leave an indelible impression upon their former colonies? As far as I can ascertain the predictions of western decline are based upon the philosophies of those living in the nineteenth century unable to keep up with the scientific explosion .After all when the very nature of the physical world around changes so too does mans philosophical outlook. Gorbineau,a conservative catholic, set out to prove that that liberalism was based upon Christian beliefs and wound up proving the exact opposite. Jacob Burckhardt was of the view that society was constantly changing its values and that while civilization does not impede mans inner nature neither does it enhance it .Wagner was greatly influenced by Gorbineau, the philosopher Schopenhauer his spokesman. The operas Tristan and Isolde, Tannhauser, and The Flying Dutchman reflected his view of mans soul constantly struggling to escape its bounds. Niechze was of the view that the coming collapse of civilization was a great thing ushering in a new greater civilization.
What the nineteenth century philosophers have done is
to predict the exact opposite of what in really
happening .Western society is not collapsing. Sure
things look kind of out of kilter but rest assured the
biological urge to survive will soon bring about other
philosophies .Sure in two hundred years or so Europe
and America will no longer look the same as they do
today. They will probably be a conglomeration of
states of various ethic types, all having their own
cultural systems. Those of European descent will begin
to ask: why only they are denied the right to set up
colonies in other parts of the world? which will more
and more begin to resemble the Italian peninsular five
hundred or so years before the birth of Christ. When
the playing field is again level the most efficient
culture will begin to gobble up the others in much the
same way as did that creature in the old pac man game.
