We've Been At War For 28 Years

By David Allen Jared
Nov. 21, 2007

Iran essentially declared war on the U.S. in 1979 when they invaded sovereign U.S. territory in Tehran and held the embassy staff hostage for almost 450 days, but we've not been paying much attention, apparently. It's a dead-bang certainty that Iran was behind the bombing of the Kobar Towers that killed multiple U.S. citizens, that they financed and helped plan the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in a Yemeni harbor, killing 17, and that they've been financing Hamas in Lebanon and Israel for at least the last 20 years. Most of the IED's used in Iraq within the past year were made by and smuggled across the border by Iranian agents who've been captured on the ground in numerous locales in Iraq. We know that many Al Qaeda operatives--as well as many members of the now-deposed Taliban from Afghanistan--have been given refuge in Iran. Iran has consistently thumbed its nose at both the U.S. and the UN with regard to sanctions opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions, and, when the President has threatened them, Democrats have accused the President of "dangerous saber-rattling!" Amazing!

This may be the very first time in the history of the United States that one of the two major political parties--almost to a man--has tried everything in its power to undermine our efforts in the conduct of a war...even more so than during Vietnam. I do not believe that this has much to do with abhorring war, for if it did, the same suspects would have been all over the Clinton administration for bombing Iraq and Bosnia during the last decade of the 20th Century. No, its about a thirst for political power. I believe Democrats have misread the American people. Yes, we all want the war to end. Yes, we want our boys and girls home as soon as possible. Yes, we may have botched the early stages of the aftermath of the organized fighting and since imposed silly rules of engagement that have imperiled our troops, but much of the blame for that can be laid at the feet of the leftists in the anti-war crowd who've carped and groused incessantly since the war began--mostly out of unbridled hatred for President Bush; a man they consider to be an idiot, but who kept out-maneuvering them all at every turn--which says more about their inflated opinions of themselves than it says about the President.

Yes, Americans want the war over and the troops home, but the left has misunderstood what that means and grossly miscalculated the public's pride in our military heroes and its desire to end the war alright, but with a quick WIN. No real American wants us to lose...apparently except the far left which now seemingly controls the Democrat Party. Somehow, their Bush Derangement Syndrome is so pervasive and all-consuming that they'd rather see us LOSE a war which we MUST win than see his administration get credit for a success. We have a name for that attitude. It's called treason and the far left is guilty as sin.
